SOURCE: cooling fan not working

The fans only run when the engine reaches approxminatly 235 degrees F. on the guage that is near the end of scale just before guage show "HOT" I don't think you have a problem, allot of folks out there don't know about this.

SOURCE: 2000 Altima - when fan starts (to cool engine

Might be the fan bearings are going bad and letting the fan wobble abit on start up. Check for cracked fan blade, or loose.

SOURCE: 2002 monte carlo ss the will start but the engine cooling fan want start

The engine cooling fan is controlled by a thermostatic switch. From your description, I believe you are assuming the fan comes on immediately when the engine starts. Not so. It only comes on when a certain temperature is reached

My Nissan urban keeps overheating after it got overheated what could be the cause

Cooling fans not turning on, check to make sure the cooling fans are running when overheating occurs. Not enough coolant in the cooling system, check the coolant reservoir make sure the coolant is at at the maximum level when combustion engine is completely cool,if your coolant is low add coolant to the maximum level. (1)Start combustion engine, let it warm up but not over heat. Turn off combustion engine, when it cools completely the coolant reservoirs level will be lower . Add more coolant and keep repeating (1) until the coolant level stays the same after combustion engine completely cools down.Sensor that tells the cooling fans to turn on defective. Non functioning thermostat. Broken impeller inside Water Pump. Clogged radiator. Clogged water jackets in combustion engine. Broken drive belt. Radiator has something blocking the cooling fins(possibly a plastic bag that went against the cooling fins when driving)

What is the difference between the Intake Air Temperature Sensor and the cool temperature Valve?

The Intake Air Temperature Sensor detects the temperature of the AIR being drawn into the engine intake. The ECM uses this do determine the proper fuel-air ratio as cooler air is denser than warmer air. The Cool Temperature Valve is actually called the coolant temperature sensor and tells the ECM the temperature of the coolant in the engine. The ECM uses this to control fuel delivery as the engine warms up (choke function), and it also uses this to control the turning on and off of the radiator cooling fans. In order to determine of the problem is the sensor or the fan circuit, a simple test is to start the engine and turn on the A/C. The cooling fans must run at all times when the A/C is on. If they are not running, it is not the coolant temperature sensor, but a problem in the fan control circuit.

How do you check engine cooling fan relay

thumb.jpghere is your cooling system electrical wiring diagram.
use a digital volt ohm meter to check for power at relays and be sure to check fan operation (turn car on and fans and poke with a stick if fan starts operating and then shuts off it is drawing to much power and needs to be replaced. if blades will not turn fan is locked up and needs to be replaced. do not run engine for too long without proper functionong cooling system you could cause sever engine damage i.e. headgasket or cracked block. also be sure the radiator has plenty of coolant and is functioning normally hope this helps

How can I tell if the engine cooling fan is functioning properly?

The cooling fan is made to come on when the engine reaches a certain temperature. To give a simple and general test - turn the AC on high - it your AC and fan are both working correctly the fan should come on almost immediately. If not within very few minutes like 5 or 8.
Also at operating temperature the fan will run as well. In the early morning before you start the car open the hood - fill the radiator while the engine is still cold. start the engine and wait about 10 minutes or so. The fan should come on before the engine over heats. This may take up to 20 minutes and the fan is designed to run after the car is shut off IF - the temperature is hot enough.

CHECK TO SEE IF BOTH COOLING FANS RUNNING ARE RUNNING WHEN ENGINE RUNNING START OVERHEATING IF COOLING FANS NOT WORKING CHECK COOLING FANS LARGE FUSES IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OR YOU COULD FAULTY COOLING FANS THERMO SWITCH BOTTOM LEFT SIDE OR RADIATOR.IF COOLING FANS IS WORKING WHILE ENGINE RUNNING.RADIATOR CORES AND HEATER CORE COULD BE CLOGGED.COOLANT SYSTEM NEED FLUSHING. THE THERMOSTAT PARTIALLY CLOSED CAUSE ENGINE OVER HEAT.CHECK WATERPUMP WEEP HOLE IF LEAKING WATER PUMP NEED REPLACING.

Car runs hot at an idle. turn on the air and the fan comes on and cools off . does the ect control the fan function when the air is off? 1994 camaro 3.4.

The Cooling fan is Wired in in such a way so as to Automaticly Turn on Cooling Fan If the A/C is Switched ON. If "WITHOUT the A/C on" The Cooling Fan Doen NOT come ON Untill Engine. is @ 210-230 Degrees
There IS a Problem with the Engine COOLING SYSTEM, A Faulty Coolant Temp Sensor Will Cause this Problem. The Cooling fan is Also A Candidate For Testing.

Answering your Quwstion YES The Engine Coolant Temperture Sensor Tells the ECM What the TEMP Is and the ECM Grounds the Cooling FAN Relay to Turn ON Cooling FAN. Temp Sensor is the Usual Culpret, BUT Relay Comes in a CLOSE Second. Hope this Helps !!!
