MY 2001 Durango 4.7L idles too fast. Have checked for vacuum leak on hoses. Would this be a sensor problem? Have run a scanner . Had no DTC.

By "too fast", do you mean VERY fast? Does idle speed drop when you turn off the air conditioner? Generally, any sensor malfunction will trigger a code... but not always.

Check the cruise control cable - be sure it's not binding or otherwise pulling the throttle open.

How to test cam shaft sensor on 2001 chevy tracker

what engine, 2L or 2.5?
the be very hard, but is 100% covered in the FSM
i must use a scope to test it, do you have one?
log in to and read the spark page.. or buy the FSM.

i open my 04 2.5L FSM
page 1h6 covers CMP
i see 2 scope readings,,, 2.0L and 2.5L here,
scope channel 1 to C51-3-10 (ign. trigger sig)
scope channe 2 to C51-2-13 (cam sig)

the ign, trigger is fast
the cam is slow broad square wave
the cam sig could be seen with a voltmeter.
hi/lo repeats 5v high 0v low.
the spark trigger is way too fast to see. with any slow meter.
about 2 milliseconds, 0.002 seconds. 3volt spike,

log in and read it. at or mitchells.

why not post symptoms.?
why not post, if scanning the ECU , cranking for 5 seconds
does the ECU set , P0340sor 355s or dead RPM PID.
why not do that and see if the ECU hates the CMP?
it will in fact report even 1 dropout in 10, !!!!
do that way before scope comes out or buy one CMP.

My 2000 chevy tracker wont start

if you have not changed the camshaft position sensor you need to do that sounds exactly like my problem got the new fuel pump and filter in there and it was fine for a month then same thing started happening again, been fine for 7 months since I changed my camshaft position sensor

1990 tracker idles high all the time unplug map sensor on fire wall it idles down but runs sigh smokes

check for vacuum leaks. this can be done by waving a gas torch (propane) near the intake piping between the throttle body and the intake manifold with the engine running.

Check engine light is on, vehicle idles at approximately 1300 rpm

autozone will scan it for free then give you a print out list of codes, and these codes will give you the names of the parts that are creating errors, replace those parts if needed and then clear the codes and you are done.

Idles too fast. Back pressure in case. How do I fix this?

Clean out the blockage in the engine gas recirculation and or idle by pass.Sounds like a blockage or the idle bypass has failed

IF IT RUNS AND STAYS running. then that means the car is flooding or is in a sad state of tune.
tune it up and it will start every time.

Hi,If you are mechanicly inclined replacing the timing belt should be simple ,If the car still runing be sure to aling the timing marks perfect and make a note of the position in a piece of paper,If not you can get the specs at the auto parts where you get the belt ...YES they can jump do to wear and they can cause valves to bend ,this can also cause major engine damage....

Headlight problem My headlights will sometimes not work. One time, after moving the headlight switch into the on position, the lights were not on. I turned them off and back on again, and they came one. Then one day soon afterward, while driving with the lights on, they just went off. In the process of turning the light switch on and off and trying the bright lights to see if they worked, I discovered that while the lights were off/not working, if I moved the dimmer switch forward (into the on position), the lights still did not work, but if I pulled the dimmer switch back and held it, the bright lights worked). When the lights are off like this, after driving for a few minutes, they will come back on. This (lights going off and coming back home) happened a couple of other times. After I called the mechanic I typically use, he said the take it to the Ford dealer. The Ford dealer had a hard time reproducing the problem but finally did. When the lights went off, he told me they ran a diagnostic and the results were that it needed both the multifunction switch and the light switch. He said it was mainly the multifunction switch. This at first made sense to me since, after describing the problem to him, he said it sounded like the multifunction switch. I asked if I would then be okay to first have them replace the multifunction switch, and then a couple of months later have the light switch replaced. I asked this since he said that the multifunction switch was the main problem. He said he thought that would be okay and the lights would probably be okay after that for a while. However, after speaking directly to the technician, something he said concerns me. I commented to the tech about how it was good that when I pulled back on the dimmer switch, the bright lights came one, so that I at least had some lights. He told me that the bright lights work differently when pulling back on the lever VS when pushing forward into the on position. He said something about it being hardwired or something so it bypasses the switch, thus enabling the bright lights to work when pulling back on the lever even when the light switch does not work. He said they did this for a reason. Based on that fact, this makes me question if the multifunction switch is the "main" problem as the other person told me. What is your opinion on this?
