Question about 1998 GMC Suburban

2 Answers

My 1998 Chevy Suburban is having A/C issues. We keep recharging it and it works good for at least the day and park it. By the next week when we use it the air is not as cold as it was. Sometimes the air is really hot, sometimes it gets somewhat cool. Now the rear a/c is always hot when the front feels fairly cold. I am not sure if this is two seperate problems or the same one. I would really like a diagnosis, and if possible vague help on what I need to do to cost effectively get my a/c running normal again.

Check the Ignition Control Module. Usually these are mounted in the base of the distributor - the distributor wire harness plugs into it. If you already changed that, then I would have the ECM ( Engine Control Module ) tested. I really hope it is the ICM - they are much cheaper than the ECM!!
Good luck and I hope this helps!!

Take it to a shop and have them test the system, it sounds like you have a leak or a problem with the dryer or expansion valve. The shop should be able to pull a vacuum on the system to check for leaks.

Parking break light is on & Chimming When P. Break is released

On your parking brake assembly is a single wire switch. You can unplug it, but you will have to remember not to drive with it set. To replace the switch the whole assembly will have to come out. The switch is about $20 and labor should run about two hours. Good Luck

Shifter cable broke in 1998 chevy suburban

Ok, Disconnect it from the Tranny First. This will make it easier to Fish Through. Connect the New Cable on the Tranny. Follow where the Old one Goes with the New one, Removing the Old one as you go. It will enter the Cab and work it's way up to the Sterring Column. You will Need to remove the Dash Panel to Access the Cable on the Shifter, It just Pulls Loose. You are at the Hardest Part of this at this Point. Let me know if you cannot access the Shifter From this Point. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
