Sounds like it is your starter that is going out. One way to "test" it, is to tap the starter with a hammer and see if it will start then. More than likely it will but the "hammer method" will only work a few times. Hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa!

Ignition relay or fuse could be the problem. When you turn the key to start do you hear a fuel pump kicking on and or do you have spark when you hot wire the starter (I know it's hard to check while trying to start it)? You can email me back and I might be able to pinpoint it more.

Starter fluid won't work if the starter won't turn the engine over.

Get the battery load tested...it may not have enough juice to start the truck but have enough to light up the lights

check your fuses and battery connections at the starter. Is the anti theft light flashing? If it is that's your problem. Wait 10 minutes insert the key...wait for the theft light to go out before trying to start.

if that doesn't work you will need to get the starter checked...which means you will have to take it off.

1985 GMC Sierra Classic has battery charge but dies out with single click. My battery needed a jump the other day. Drove truck for 2 days. When I went to start it began to turn over then died. I tried...

the battery is probably bad, one way to test it is conduct a load test. Hook a voltage meter to the battery post and have someone try to start the truck. If the voltage drops below 10.4 volts DC, replace the battery.

99 Dakota won't turn over just clicking

is it a continuous clicking or a single click. a single click usualy points to a loose or diry cable. could possibly be starter solenoid also or starter relay.

My 2007 tundra went dead. The ignition won't start

There are several possibilities ranging from a defective starter, to bad cable connections, to the onboard security system locking out the starter relay, or an aftermarket accessory interfering with the starter circuit, or a locked-up/damaged engine.

I have had vehicles towed into my shop for similar complaints when the only problem was that the customer was using a cheap duplicate key that they had made at the hardware store that did not have the required computer chip in it.

I have also had vehicles towed in where the customer had replaced the battery and did not have good cable connections or forgot to connect one of the wires that was supposed to to get hooked-up to the battery connector.

Then there are the questions: Are you getting any kind of "clicking" noises when turning the key or is it completely dead? If it is clicking, WHAT is clicking? Is it the starter motor itself that you hear or just the starter motor relay? Do you have battery power at the starter "S" terminal when turning the key? If not, is the transmission selector in "PARK"? Does the shift indicator on the dash indicate that the transmission range sensor is in "PARK"? (possible defective transmission range sensor) Are there any fault codes stored in ANY of the modules connected to your onboard computer network?

It is really hard to say without being able to see the truck.

make sure all grounds are clean and area of metal that ground wire's bolt to are clean and rust free if that check's out ok there could be a break in a wire going to the starter and most starter's have two wire's going to them and those both need to have power going to them one drop's off when key is turned to starting mode volt meter work's good for this or test light or the starter could be bad

My truck won't start when I turn the key the

a single click usually indicates a bad starter. there are a couple things you can check.

1. make sure there is power on the small wire at the starter with the key in the crank position.

2. make sure there is power on the large wire at the starter all the time (key off and while cranking).

if both of these check out have a helper hold the key in the crank position while you tap (key word is tap) the starter with a hammer. Be prepared for the starter to work and start the engine! If this happens replace the starter.

Check your battery if it is to corrodid it won't have enough amps to turn the starter then check the starter if that is all good check your ground you should have a main ground to the block and another to the body
