Hi Flora, I'm glad to help. The first thing I'd do is check the brake pads, because if your calipers are not releasing like they should then it has most like worn the pad material off and its worn down to metal touching metal and thats the sound you are hearing. Have your husband check the pads to see if they are metal too metal. Hope this helps and you and your husband have an awesome day Flora!

Whirring noises are usually bearings here is a good test drive down the road and act like a down hill skier criss cross back and forth does noise change then it is front wheel bearings does not then it is rear differential bearings.

metal on metal contact with the rotor gets louder as the brake is applied and for a sticking caliper the pads on the affected side will be substantially thinner that the other side.

It could be a filter, I really doubt it would be a fuel pump as you would get a check engine light. I would try the easier of the two and swap the filter out for a new one. If you are not getting any CEL (check engine lights) I sincerely doubt you have a sensor issue as well. Also I would check your airfilter too just to be safe. Let me know how this turns out.

Sincerely,

JC

SOURCE: differential making annoying whirring sounds.

this noise is caused by the pinion bearing in most cases, of course without removing the bearing to look for pits in the race it is at best an educated guess.

SOURCE: my van makes clicking noise when going uphill & and sometimes the speeds slows right down and makes noise (clicking under vehicle).

Could be front CV axles making that noise. Check out the rubber cv boots going from the transmission to the center of the front wheels, If the boots are ripped or cracked, replace the cv axles on both sides.

YES THE CV AXLES DO MAKE A SIMILAR NOISE WHEN GOING BAD BECAUSE THE CAGE THAT THE BALL-BEARINGS ARE IN VIBRATE AS THEY ROTATE. A CLICKING SOUND AROUND TURNS ARE ANOTHER INDICATION OF BAD CV AXLES.HOPE THIS SOLVES THE PROBLEM. KEEP ME POSTED PLEASE. GOOD LUCK AND THANKS FOR YOUR HONEST RATING. THANK YOU NALSO FOR USING FIX-YA. WITING FOR YOUR REPLY.

Just changed rear pads and rotors on my 2000 chev blazer..after test driving rear brakes were hot and smoking...brake pads seem to be sticking..are the calipers shot or do I need hoses or both?

  • Well when you looked at the brake pads after your drive were the pads stuck to the rotor?
  • First thing to do is double check your pad and rotor installation.
  • Also check to make sure the right parts were installed.
  • When you pushed back the pistons on your calipers did they flow back nice and smooth? Did they wedge in and get stuck? This would make the pads drag.
  • If you used grease did you get some on the pad by accident? If this is the case it will burn off.

  • How is the car stopping for you? Properly? Do you hear any grinding while driving slow? While driving fast? Over heating rotors will turn a bluish stain. That is when it is really time to be worried.
  • If your brakes are not dragging then give some time for the pads to ware in.
  • If the piston is stuck forcing the pads against the rotor all the time then you need to replace the calipers.
  • Don't forget to bleed the lines afterword.

Regards, Tony

Driving and truck pulled hard to the right. stopped did not do it again.then truck seemed to lock up on frt right side.middle of rim smoking. help

The brake caliper locked down, check it to see ,get it to lock up,and open the bleeder screw on the caliper,if the caliper releases the rotor, replace the brake caliper hose,if it does not release, replace the caliper.

Occasionally after driving and stopping my right front brake caliper is slow to release,a few times it actually stayed applied and become extreamely hot. When this happen I opened the bleeder screw...

Replace the rubber brake hose on that side....they are prone to rotting on the inside and letting fluid pass through it ,but not letting it back out, causing caliper to stay hung up and making you believe caliper is sticking, and opening the bleeder lets off pressure for a little while...I have seen many unneeded calipers be replaced, and then problem is still there. Now I will almost always replace both hoses when doing a front caliper change....they get old too...Good luck..Lee

1999 tahoe.right front brake caliper slow to release.

Besides changing the caliper did you by chance chg. the break hose going to it, there a 2-way hose fluid goes to caliper and returns thru same hose, and they have been known to cause what you have just discribed.

Could be a possible break down of the plug wires. Seems that I remember hearing if your plug wires are breaking down inside and if its up against the motor you can hear something that sounds like interference in your radio. Just a thought, might want to check it out.

Right front brake drags

Replace the flex line the rubber line between the car and the caliper. The inside of flex line can collapse making the back flow to release the caliper extremely slow. You can confirm the line is the problem by doing two tests. Pump the brakes up and undo the line at the caliper and it should release the caliper. Pump them up again and then undo the flex line at the steel line going to the master cylinder this should not change anything. Let me know if your findings are different and we can go from there.
