Nozzel from the gas station clicks off but tank is not full

When i put gas in the '02 xterra, after 1 or 2 gallons it either backwashes like it's full, or the nozzel clicks off. i have to barely hold the lever so i can put gas in. even then it clicks off a lot like it does when it's full. any ideas?

Are you putting the nozzel all the way in the inlet? Try putting it only part way in so the back wash doesn't hit the shut off sensor on the nozzel.

If it just recently started it might have something to do with the air pressure in your tank caused by the heat. LIke a blocked vent hole or something. Sorry, we've reached the end of my expert knowledge about this issue.

How many gallon gas do the gas tank hold?

Fill it with the gas can and then go to a gas station. Your gas can can't be much bigger than 5 gallons, there's very few that are larger because they get heavy. Your gas tank is vastly more than 5 gallons, probably 15 or more in an Envoy.

Cannot fill gas tank on 2002 Kia sedona. Even when you only pump 1 gallon, the pump clicks off like it is full. We have taken off the hoses but did not see any blockage.

I have a Kia Sedona 2005 and I can't fill it up with gas without the pump kicking off and I have tried several gas stations. Sometimes I can get a few gallons in with no problem but then it kicks off again and I have to spend twenty minutes dripping fuel into it until I loose patience. Help me!

I have a 2005 Yukon 125K miles - fuel guage

what's happening, is the level sensor in the fuel tank is getting worn out, and it thinks it's out of fuel when you actually still 1/2 to 1/4 of a tank left. The only way to rectify this is to put a new fuel pump in, as it is only available as an entire unit. If you can live with it, it'll probably last quite some time, but if not, you'll have to look at a pump assembly. Hope you get it situated soon! Feel free to reply back if you have other questions

Gas clicks like full when its not full

It sounds like your tank vent is pluged. If you look under the vehicle near your filler spout, you should see the filler spout hose leading to the tank and a smaller hose next to it. The smaller hose is the one that I am concerned with. See if it has some how collapsed with age. In a few rare cases I have seen the vent hose made inside of the filler hose ( ford ranger I belive) and you won't see that one. What happens is when you put the fuel in, the air must come out, so it burps for a better way of putting it and it forces fuel out with it. Putting the filler hose in farther and tighter won't help, but you could try to slow the rate down so as to give the air more time to escape.

Car won't start

Your fuel pump is sticking and not pumping, this is common if you run the fuel down to less than 1/4 full, the fuel pump needs the gas to cool itself, below a 1/4 tank the pump is not getting cooled and after repeatably running low on fuel it overheats and fails. Running the car near 1/2 tank extends the pump life to many years more than running tank below a 1/4 full..
