I have replaced bearing on the pinion and crown on nissan 3.2. its has a bad noise. how do i adjust pinion and crown?

Adjustment to crown wheel and pinion has to be done after bearing replacement on the pinion and carrier. It is a method that unless you have done a lot of diff repairs will amount to a trial and error procedure to get it right. Fortunately any work shop manual that you can borrow will have the way to set up the diff and there will be photos and directions on which to move to get the setting right. It is important to get the reading right as correct gear mesh will ensure a long lasting quite diff operation.

Ring and pinion adjustment

hello sir ...

RING AND PINION TOOTH CONTACT PATTERN.—The ring and pinion tooth contact pattern is used to double-check ring and pinion adjustment. To check the accuracy of your adjustments, coat the ring gear teeth with a thin coat of red lead, white grease, hydrated ferric oxide (yellow oxide or iron), or Prussian blue. Turn the ring gear one way and then the other to rub the teeth together, producing a contact pattern on the teeth. Carefully note the contact pattern that shows up on the teeth where the substance used has been wiped off. A good contact pattern is one located in the center of the gear teeth (fig. 5-21). Figure 5-21 shows several ring and pinion gear contact patterns. Study each and note the suggested correction for the faulty contact

Starting problems

I am guessing that you have a problem properly engaging the starter pinion into the ring gear to start the engine Check the starter pinion for correct adjustment and check pinion teeth for wear. Check the ring gear for wear from where the pinion fails to engage properly before spinning.

How to set crown + pinion gears on 1982 dodge ram

you adjust the backlash and pinion depth by add or removing shims from the side bearings and from under the large pinion bearing, here is a pattern chart, you will need to get some pattern past and put on the gears then turn the pinion and check the pattern on the gears keep adding or removing shims until you have the pattern correct.....good luck\

P.S. I cant recommend doing this job by yourself get some help from someone who has done this before, 9 out of 10 people who try this repair will destroy the rear end, if the pinino depth is to deep you will brake the ring gear if to shallow the rear end will make so much noise you can't drive it.

Im replacing a rear bearing and need to know the tork pressure required

There is no torque specs, this nut has to be tightened back like it was ,the best thing to do,was,to late now,is to use a torque wrench to remove the nut,and remember the torque, and when replacing it,torque it back to that spec, the reason being, there is a crush sleeve between the front pinion bearing ,and the rear pinion bearing, and it has to be crushed to a certain amount,to acquire deepness into the ring gear, anyway just give it about 25 lbs torque, any more the crush sleeve will crush even more and the deepness of the pinion will be too much.

Have a rear end whine at all speeds.Replaced differential bearings, pinion and all othergears show no signs of wear.Any ideas

This problem can be caused by a crush sleeve that needs replaced. Proper installation of this sleeve is critical for noise free operation. If the pinion nut is loosened at any time during the adjustment process then a new sleeve must be installed.
