Question about Ford Cars & Trucks

The start relay is sticking or is getting a close signal from a wire that is shorted. This is easy to troubleshoot by pulling the relay out of its socket and interrogating the socket terminals with a volt/ohmmeter. If you reply with model and year, I can provide the troubleshooting procedure.

SOURCE: H2 Hummer
Today 11-12-08 my 2003 H2 Hummer would not start. Checked battery it ischarged. Cables tight. Tried to start with portable booster pak. No go. Tridto jump start with my wife's Suburban. Still no go.
When I turn the switch I hear a single click and that is it. No engine turning over. While trying to start with key the headlights go out. Out of ideas, Will take to Chevy garage in am. Will post solution.

Starter drive spinning but not shooting out into flywheel for turning engine over. If you remove it & grease up the shaft of the starter that it slides on & keep working it on the bench, you may save some money. Once you have it lubed & working good one bench, put it back in & give it a try. Take a look at gear teeth for damage while it's on the bench as well.

It is possible that the starer is pulling too much amperage- 1st thing you need to do is find out what if any other consumers are on that circuit, 2nd you need to find out how much amperage is being consumed by the starter. 3rd test you wires most likely if a wire problem it is the heavy hot wire on the starter or the back of the alternator has a loose retaining nut
