Why dose my 06dodge ram slip when going overdrive

1 Answer

Because you have a failed transmission,
if your lucky, just a solenoid problem

Since you have been using it with it slipping,
it is now ruined & next to no chance for any other
solution

You have to change trans & power steering fluids on
all vehicles, every three years & drive like your afraid
they may fail or they will, their all designed with lots of
known flaws, all fixable, but only on a complete rebuild

Why dose my 06dodge ram slip when going in overdrive

Got to have more information...need mileage,is it a 4-wheel drive ?..Have you ever changed trans fluid before.?..does it have any trans leaks.?do you haul a lot of stuff or ever pull a boat or trailer..? Do you keep tires gauged up..and what type of area do you live in..City or suburbs..mountains..?... Does it automatically switch to overdrive or do you push a button..(This is one of the most causes because some people use overdrive when they shouldn't or forget to push the button when they should...)...Without this information I could only start guessing....If trans fluid is low it will make it slip..or if it has too much fluid it will slip.If it has never had trans fluid and internal filter changed it will slip..(Filter will clog and decrease fluid intake which creates a delay in changing because fluid can't get to the port fast enough because it can't keep up with the engine RPM ..Overdrive gear cog is larger also..However reverse cog is larger than all..In most case's reverse goes out first...)...the trans is basically timed with the engine type it comes out of the factory with...Your trans also has a solenoid switch which will create this problem..If solenoid is bad or going bad it will show a certain code on most scanners...FYI..Auto-Zone should scan it for free...I hope this helps..I am level 4 Chrysler/Jeep certified and Love to help..send more info if you can..However all I have described should just about cover it............Brooks/Metalpoet........"

My 2001 dodge ram 1500 with 5.2L sometimes slips in overdrive. what could be causing it

Assuming its an automatic. Check the Transmission fluid first and foremost. Follow the instructions on the dip stick. If the fluid turns out alright then sorry to say but the clutch plates inside the transmission are going out. Transmission fluid could smell burnt. I had a 2000 ram and at 82000 miles thats when it started doing the same thing. I drove it til it wouldn't move forward or back.

97 buick lasabre trans slips in overdrive

Either the cruise control is going out or the torque converter clutch circuit is going out on the trannys overdrive. Do you have check engine light codes? If so you will need to have a computer hooked up to read them. Darrel coleman also has a problem with his car like this and I have suggested the same thing to him

well the low cost way to go first would be to try and change the trans fluids. If the problems still remains the it may be an internal problem

My transmission slips in drive but not overdrive why?

well overdrive is really where your suppose to have it when you hit the highway. Seem now the gears are slipping in (D) mode. if you want to save more time go to any major parts store and purchase TRANSX. pour it in and drive off.
