I have a 2003 Ford Focus lx and the clutch pedal has no resistance on it and it will not go into gear. Please help I need this car to get to work

Check the clutch fluid level. It will be a small reservoir close to the brake master cylinder. If the clutch reservoir is empty, add fluid.( brake fluid ) You may have to perform a bleed procedure at the clutch slave cylinder attached to the transmission Pump the clutch pedal several times and have someone open the bleeder screw until fluid comes out and the clutch pedal has its resistance back

My sons Clutch would not engage or for that matter it would not do anything

You didn't use DOT5 brake fluid did you. DOT5 brake will swell some types of rubber and aerate the fluid which becomes compressible.

Replace clutch fluid

The best way is to replace all the fluid including the fluid in the line to the slave. Here's how I do it.
  • safely raise the front of the car enough to get to the clutch slave cylinder
  • attach a piece of hose to the bleed nipple and run into a container
  • open the bleed nipple
  • slowly depress clutch pedal. Repeat until the fluid level in the reservoir is down below half
  • at this point, top up the reservoir with new fluid
  • repeat the above process until you observe clean fluid running out of the drain tube.
  • Tighten the drain nipple and verify that the clutch is working properly and there is no air in the system.

Wont go into gear

Did any fluid come out? It has to have fluid reach the slave cylinder, and when bleed valve is open and clutch is pressed, fluid should squirt out. Open the valve and pump the clutch until fluid is forced down into the slave cylinder. Keep topping up the clutch master cylinder so it won't run dry.
Post back if still having problems. There is a tool at auto parts stores for pressure bleeding brake lines and clutch lines. It forces fluid into the lines by pressure. If nothing works, your clutch master cylinder may have failed. Take the line off at the slave cylinder and see if the master cylinder is working to push fluid through the line.

What does it mean when i have to pump the clutch to get it to work and it has fluid in it

If you have to pump the clutch to get it to work, it means that the clutch fluid needs replacing........the clutch fluid is exactly the same a s brake fluid and must be changed evry 2 years.

If it is not changed, then it breaks down into water and its other ingredients, the water boils off when it gets too hot, and it creates a spongy clutch pedal, that requires you to continuallly pump it to get to work.

I would suggest that you buy some new brake/clutch fluid and blled the clutch.

If you are unsure how to do this, get back and let me know and I will post a procedure for you !!!!!

My daughter's 1997 Camry V-6 - Clutch pedal will go to the floor and sometimes won't come back. Checked fluid in clutch reservoir - OK. No fluid leaking. Had her press the clutch pedal and everything...

try bleeding the clutch slave cylinder its just like bleeding brakes just follow the line from the clutch master cylinder where you checked the fluid to the slave cylinder and pump the clutch three times and hold it to the floor while someone loosens the relief valve you repeat until no air comes out and it is all fluid then you check you fluid level again to make sure it is full then if the problem continues it might be time for a clutch replacement

1997 kia sportage clutch adjustment

The clutch is a fluid clutch. The only adjustment is to make sure the fluid is full. The ones I have worked on use a combined resoveir that holds brake fluid for both the brakes and the clutch system. So check the fluid in your master cylinder.

Leaking brake fluid now my clutch not working !!! help

Are you sure it was brake fluid leaking? If you were leaking transmission fluid then that could cause some of the mechanical workings to stall, in turn causing the clutch to freeze-up. The other (more likely) problem is that you were leaking hydraulic fluid for the hydraulic clutch.

It sounds like you will probably have a hydraulic clutch, and fluid was leaking. If you accidentally topped-up the hydraulic fluid for the clutch with brake fluid, that would be an interesting scenario... not sure how the mis-match would work out. If the hydraulic clutch fluid is simply low, you can flush it out, put new fluid in there and get it to a dealer to repair the clutch

you can use dot 3 brake fluid from you local parts store, im using it in my 99 sunfire, but just ask them and they'll reommend there product.
As I see it the clutch and brakes work very similar to one another.
