Could be many different things. If no check engine light is on then I would probally start checking fuel for proper volume or a restricted exhaust cat converter. Lots of variables depending on maintenance history.

How do you reset a pcm on a 2004 volkswagen jetta

Pull the battery negative cable of for 30 minutes. This erases the keep alive memory and set it to factor defaults. If you are want to erase codes and get the check engine light off. You need a code reader or scanner. If the problem has been fixed. The light will come back on if not fixed.

Headlights go out and come back on while driving

I'm not an expert but I own a 1997 Jetta and ran into the same problem recently. I took the car to my VW mechanic and he thought it was the ignition switch. I took it in, he replaced the ignition switch ($53 part, $80 installation) and presto... the problem is fixed.

Hi, I am considering purchasing a 2002 Jetta TDI. It has over 211,000 miles and is in excellent condition. The asking price is $4500. Whats the typical history for maintaining this car? Are repairs and...

The selling price is fair. Yes parts are expensive for any VW. Take the car to a trusted mechanic and have it looked over. This will be money well spent. Also look at the Carfax on this vehicle to see if it has been wrecked or flooded.

We recently replaced a glowplug on our 2003 VW Jetta tdi. We had to disconnect the power source. Since then, the door alarm wont stop ringing. We can't find the factory reset code. Can you help? Oh, it has...

Removing the battery connection for this procedure will cause diagnostic trouble codes to be stored in the engine control module. Erasing these DTCs and resetting the readiness code will require Volkswagen scan tool VAG1551/1552 or equivalent. The same results will occur when disconnecting engine management components while the key is in the on position. Some driveability problems may be noticed until the system re-adapts to operating conditions. OBD II readiness codes, which may be required for emissions testing, may also be erased. Convenience electronics (alarm systems, interior light control, power locks, mirrors, and windows) may need to be re-set using a VAG 1551/1552 or equivalent sacan tool.

My epc light went on in my 2002 volkswagen jetta

Take it to the dealer, the EPC warning light - and even more the failsafe run which doesn't allow you drive faster than 20mph) is an indication of serious motor troubles. They can read the ECU faultcodes, which should be a good startingpoint for troubleshooting the cause ...

You could do some basic troubleshooting like checking the air filter, the oil level, the spark plugs, etc. You didn't fill it up with bad gas, did you ? And does the engine make strange noises/vibration when running idle ? In case you fixed some obvious cause, you can dis- and reconnect the battery to erase the engine's faultcode. If it's not fixed, the EPC (and failsafe run) will simply come on again.

My advice would be not to drive it untill it's fixed to prevent more potential damage.
