Question about 2009 Nissan Versa

Open Question

Why is my key not turning in the ignition? Its stuck in the LOCK position and won't budge when I try to turn it.

My car has a manual transmission with manual locks. When I put my key in the ignition, it won't budge, although I can take it back out easily. My break pedal felt oddly stiff, but when my car is in neutral, I can push it forward/back.

I have/had the exact same problem today. I tried the solution as posted, spray WD40 into the ignition switch. That didn't work. I then tried rocking the car back and forth (front to back). That worked. My guess is the key is worn. I will eventually need a new ignition switch. But until that time comes, I will keep rockin' the car.

Hi what is happening is that your turn off your car and left the wheels turned to one side and specially if your car is parke in a hill what you have to do is to force the steering wheel to the same direction of your wheels this will free up the ignition switch it is going to be hard let me tell you but it will work and this is why your shift don't work once you have the ignition switch free then your shift will work again

if your key is a transonder key wich has chip in it give it a couple of minutes to reset the code keep key in ignition and wait to see if it reads key or try another key and see if you have sameproblem make sure you unlock steering wheel disconnecting batteryfor posts might have reset car computer and cannot read ur key...

  1. Push the ignition lock cylinder control actuator release button which is on the underside of the ignition key cylinder.
  2. Turn the key to the OFF position and remove the key.
Were you able to turn the key to the OFF position and remove the key?
Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the ignition lock cylinder control actuator.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit and the ignition key/shifter interlock switch supply voltage circuit of the ignition lock cylinder control actuator with a test lamp.
Does the test lamp illuminate?

What make vehicle ? Most all vehicles have a safety system .Don't try an force anything you'll break it !

The ignition lock cylinder control actuator purpose is to prevent the ignition key from being turned to the OFF position when the transmission is in any position other than PARK and the vehicle may still be moving. The column ignition lock system consists of an ignition lock cylinder control actuator, and a park position switch that is located in the automatic transmission shift lock control switch. The ignition lock cylinder control actuator contains a pin that is spring loaded to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when the vehicle transmission is not in the PARK position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the PARK position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column. They also have this on column mounted shifters !

The Key FOB is stuck in the ignition. How can I get it to eject?

The column ignition lock system consists of an ignition lock cylinder control actuator, and a park position switch that is located in the automatic transmission shift lock control switch. The ignition lock cylinder control actuator contains a pin that is spring loaded to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when the vehicle transmission is not in the PARK position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the PARK position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column. Your best bet is to take it to a ASE certified repair shop or the dealer ! The fix involves taking the steering column apart an or the floor shifter assembly ! Also electrical test to determine what is the problem !

I have a 2003 Chevy blazer xtreme 4.3 v6 automatic transmission and its giving me some issues with the console shifter and ignition system! Every other time I put the blazer in park and try to take the key...

The ignition lock cylinder control acutator contains a pin that is spring loaded out to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when vehicle transmission is not in the Park position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the Park position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column.

Ignition is getting stuck. Won't budge sometimes have to work it for a few minutes to get it to turn.


Is your steering wheel locked while this is happening? Try applying a little pressure to your key and ignition switch while you wiggle the steering wheel to take the pressure off the steering lock. Or double check that the transmission shifter is completely in the Park position. Wiggle the shifter as well to make sure.

bad battery and if i don't drive the car couple of days then it goes dead ??? It's not the battery , you have a parasitic draw on the electrical system , that is what is draining the battery . Could be the instrument cluster .Watch this video . What's giving out 13 volts or when ? With the engine running hooking a volt meter to the battery the voltage should be 13 - 14 volts , depending on the load on the electrical system.

2002 oldmobile bravada ignition key is stuck in lock position


try and turn your steering wheel a little bit left or right and and the same time try and turn the key when it turns toward the dash then try and turn the key back. try and repeat this several times if neccessary. this should work. please rate this solution. thanks
