SOURCE: steering wheel makes "rubbing" sound when I turn it

check the drive belt tension and condition, system may have air in it, check fluid level check line for signs of leaking, also there may be some internal wear in pump

SOURCE: what are a few reasons

Possibly a bad bearing in the strut mount or steering shaft that runs from steering column to the rack and pinion.

Abs light on/grinding and clunking in turns on front left side of 2003 ford explorer

Sounds like left front loose wheel bearing knocking ABS sensor out of range causing ABS light to come on and causing grind noise at same location. Grinding noise is probably rotor rubbing on calipar.

Makes a noise wen turning left

Its hard to describe noises simply by text of course. I feel sure you have checked your power steering fluid, but in case you haven't do that first and try to make sure it has the correct fluid. A remote possibility would be CV joints, but they tend to make a clicking sound. A worn out PS pump or one low of fluid can indeed make a roaring sound. Pumps normally work flawlessly past 100,000 miles.

CANT TURN KEY

turn steering wheel left or right away from the steering lock as you try to turn key forward. (happens all the time)
If you spend a few minutes and it's not working, may be a bad ignition switch.
Play with that wheel for a while.

1999 ford explorer limited whining noise in front end

Whining noise is probably in one of the pulleys or belts. Probably the power steering. And the popping is probably CV axles.

My explorer (2003) makes a loud sound while turning a curve to the left. almost sounds like a tunnel or your on really rough pavement. doesnt do that turning to the right. just had new tires put on and it...

G'day mate well lets tart with are there obvious marks on the chasis / steering arms/ stabizer bar where the tyre has been rubbing, if not then does it have a shaft problem or is the bearing worn out and letting it flop baddly with the freeplay to that side , check these and go from there, if the steering isnt correctly "centred" ( exactly the same lock from each side) check this by turning the wheels hard right then count the amount of turns to the hard left then take the wheel back half the amount and get out & check if the tyres are pointing straight if they arent then get it fixed. hope this helps

Passenger side sounds like it is rubbing

There is nothing to grease. Someones playing with your head. There was a tech bulletin out, on the steering squeeking. I would flush the power steering fluid. I have a 2004. Let us know from time to time how it's doing

That sounds like a power steering issue. Does it make the sound when the car is stationary?

When making turns I hear a rubbing sound. It makes me think I may need power steering fluid, but it is full. The tires are not rubbing against anything either

Thisis a common problem, it is cause by air bubbles in the steering system. Raise the car front and put jacl stands,Be sure the tires dont touch the ground. engine not running turn the steering wheel fullleftand right for ten times. You must go full left to right or viceversa for ten ties/this will solve it
