VW Transporter T5 2004 LWB - Water Pump Replacement

I need to change the water pump on my VW Transporter. Do you have full knowladge of how I should do this? Do I need special tools? What is the price of the new water pump (at todays price 23.06.09) and what extras do I need to complete the job. Please be as informative as possible. Have you acctually fitted one yourself and what, if any problems did you have? Is the a VW manual that I can buy (ie: Haynes) that will cover this vehicle and if so, where can I buy one?

SOURCE: Valve job for 2000 VW Jetta GL w/105,000 miles

is he sure it isn't the rings are worn also?  If so don't waste money on a valve job, when you really need a rebuilt motor.  Had you changed the oil more you wouldn't need this repair at this time.  Good uck as his price is decent.  Ask him the price for a long block?

I replaced the rear brakes in my 2000 jetta and I had to rent the tool kit from an auto parts store. There are special tools that are needed. Ask you local auto sales shop and you can rent them for like 25 dollars.

If you have the 2.0L motor than NO. You have to remove the timing belt to access some of the water pump bolts.

The water pump is run by the timing belt on that vehicle so you would need to research timing belt replacement for the 2.0l engine.

I had the same problem with my T5 130. My mechanic replaced the head gasket to no avail, then we checked the oil filter, that was ok.then we went on to a web forum and found out that the AXD engine suffers from water pump failure. We took it off and it was corroded, the seal had failed and was pumping water into the block. My advice,CHECK WATER PUMP FIRST! Good luck Marc,Somerset.

I have had exactly the same thing happen to me. In the end it was a faulty water pump which was allowing water into the engine.

Overheating problem

water pump. water pump. water pump. i am a vw dealer tech and on 2.0 and 1.8t beetles the water pump impeller is plastic, and what happens is usually another component, fans, fan control module (under battery tray), thermostat, fails and because the impeller is plastic with just one overheat the plastic becomes brittle and shatters, pull the water pump out and you will see the impeller in 3 or 4 pieces. replace water pump and make sure t stat opens, fans come on (a/c off) and proper water pump flow.
