No. Don't disconnect the battery while it is running. You can ruin the electronics on the car. Have it tested by a place that sells batteries. If your battery light is on while it is running, then you do need an alternator.

My car dyes at night in the dark when lights atre on they go dem then the hole car shuts down i checked the battery its good and unpluged the negative chord with the car running the alternator works b

All I can say for now is when quickly checking if the alternator is dead, it's supposed to be the positive terminal that has to be disconnected and the only cars that work the other way would be VW. Also check the battery and the terminals including the ground to chasis. Check the battery voltage with a meter if you have one, it should be at least 11.75v. You could go to an auto store and they usually check it for you free of charge.

Sounds like a later model with computer controlling the output and this is faulty ,now one of the wires on the back is for the warning light in the dash so disconnect one of these thin wires at a time to locate the warning light control ,then refit the warning light wire and disconnect the other other one ,now what you do is to run another wire from this terminal to a 12v ignition switched feed in teh fuse box wrap wire around leg refit fuse and with engine running disconnect battery and it should keep running if its working ok as the alternator is now battery sensed and not computer controlled ,easy just like an older car without all this fancy electronics which can and does go wrong

Battery lite came just replaced the battery and chkd alternator (it was good). I jump the battery and trk stays running about 10 mins and dies. Could it still be the alternator?

i might be a bad altinator but i would double check your battery. a bad battery will kill a new altinator. does the battery light stay on? if the battery light on the dash is not on you may have another problem...

The malibu start only after a jump off stays running until I shut it off is this a bad battery or altinator

usually when you have the car running and disconnect the positive cable from the battery the alternator will keep the car running. If it dies right away, the alternator is bad. If you can, charge the battery. If you don't have a battery charger your local auto parts store will charge it for you at no cost. They can test your alternator for you as well. Are the battery terminals clean? If there is a heavy amount of corrosion on the terminals the battery will not put out enough cranking amps to start the car. I would try here first.

My 2002 jeep wrangler check gauges light came onand the battery gauge is below the left dot on the gauge. does that mean i have to replace the battery?

With the jeep running put a volt meter on the battery and it should be reading above 13 volts if not replace the altinator it isn't charging. You can check the fuse for the altinator first if not charging but most likely the altinator is bad.

2002 chrysler sebring 2.7 v6 elictrical problem???

Sounds like a charging system issue. Just because the alternator itself tested fine doesn't mean it's getting power to the car and battery. Charge the battery and start the car (with everything connected normally, including alternator). While car is idling, disconnect the battery (negative post wI'll do). If car dies, there's a problem with the alternator wiring/harness. Once the vehicle is running, the alternator should provide plenty of power. Check voltage at battery (from alternator) and should be around 14V. Check alternator fuse.
Could be the voltage regulator in the alternator going out, which would need a new alternator.

I was driving and all of a sudden my car cut off and wouldn't start. The only way it would start is by jumping it off, but it would soon cut off

sounds like either your battery or your alternator has gone bad....if you can get it to an auto parts store they can check it out and tell you which it is or both....
