is it possible that the mechanic didn't notice the cv joint and only replaced the speed sensor

  • Matthew Boulden May 11, 2010

No, it is not a coincidence. Alot of times the speed sensor goes bad when the cv joint goes bad. Normally you would replace the cv joint, the wheel bearing, and the speed sensor at the same time. I hope this helps.

Depending on where you took the truck to be serviced, they may have just repacked the wheel bearing and inspected the cv joint when they replaced the speed sensor, but if it was going bad already that would have to have been a major overlook. Unfortunately, if the boots on the cv joint are good and not cracked or loose, there are no other indications of a bad joint other than noise in the front end while driving. Are you sure the cv joint is bad? What are the indications you are having?

Just a coincidence. The speed sensor is on the drivers side. just to the right of the CV axle.

Replace axle but not cv joints

"What we have here is a failure to communicate". The axle comes with CV joints on the end. You will be buying the rebuilt assembly. Both axle and CV joints will refer to the same part in a front wheel drive application.

check the abs rings are not touchin the sensor (buckled) IF you use replacement cv from other than a reputable joint rebuilder or new oem equipment the problem sounds like you haven't fixed the fault. clicking while turning at slow speeds relates to worn cv joints.

I have toyota corolla AE 110 with 5A engine 1998 model, three days ago my mechanic changed the right CV Joint (drive shaft),from there the ABS indicator started to come on,then it went off after sometime ...

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

As a first course of action, clean the abs sensor by using a contact cleaner. If the problem still persists then the sensor can be faulty, it may have been damaged too during the CV joint replacement. If that's the case, you will have to replace it if cleaning won't do the trick.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Cv joint but the plastic thang that go around it

One would have to remove the half shaft to service the cv joint properly.

Speed sensor should be in the front driver's side wheel well. My guess is it was disconnected while you were working.
