Yes and No...Replacing the master cylinder is a good idea, however, giving the vehicle that much pressure with old lines attached may blow out the old rusted lines. If you are going to replace the master cylinder, you may just want to replace the brake lines as well.

Is there a specific type of engine coolant for my 2005 grand prix? My mechanic says my coolant needs to be flushed and replaced with the proper type of coolant. There is no rust in my coolant.

Hello restrada.

Your Pontiac original specification calls for Dexcool coolant.
This is an orange colored fluid.
If the green regular type has been added the system should be flushed and refilled with Dexcool.

Thank you for using FixYa.

My brake line went for my 1996 chevy blazer....how do I repair it

You will need to replace th elength of the line. A mechanic may be able to slpice in a line using flared unions, but it depends on the condition of the line. If its rusted, I recomend new lines.

A mechanic told me my 96 Chevy Blazer should have gas line and brake line replaced, how do I know this needs done and not a scam? I'm a female with little knowledge and money.

Well if lines are severly rusted it is a safty issue if they start leaking you could be stranded on the side of the road,Ask your mechanic to put it up on lift and show you.

Fuel Line Leak, Need Advice

the metal line is part of the fuel pump. if the line is that fragile it should just be replaced. what if it broke and left you stranded somewhere. the fuel tank might look rusty but it's probably just surface rust.

Look at spending around 200-400 dollars to replace all the lines, and possibly calipers or wheel cylinders if the bleeder screws are rusted out also.

Brake line leak, between frame and fuel tank

You should be able to re-route a new section of line w/out any trouble. If the line is leaking due to rust, you might want to replace all the lines at once, since the rest of the system is probably rusting away also. If you plan on keeping the truck for a while, all the more reason to replace it all. I must add, I hate those rusting brake lines! Did mine over 2 times on y 90 F-250, salt and snow plowing do a number on them.
