Why did my car excellarate when coming to a stop and brakes wouldn't catch

Sounds like your brake fluid is low. Make sure your master brake cylinder is full of brake fluid and check all the brake lines from the master cylinder to all four wheels and check all four wheels for fluid leaking. You should see wet areas if there is a leak. If there are no leaks you could have a bad brake cylinder its self.

Rear brakes are usually disc, and not drum...you might not see fluid 'squirting' out if they are drum. If you can remove the rear tires/wheels, and the drums, you may find you leak in a wheel cylinder.

If they are all four disc brakes, you will find the leak if there is one by parking overnight on cardboard squares under each wheel.

Leaking fluid around left front wheel of 2001 Audi A6

If it is near the tire it is brake fluid. The brake fluid reservoir is back by the firewall driver side of engine compartment. Your car uses DOT 4 brake fluid.

Total brake failure

Did you check to make sure the master cylinder reservoir is still filled with brake fluid? There are lots of possibilities and all involve loss of hydraulic pressure. Leaks from the wheel cylinders, brake lines or master cylinder. Start with the easy things first, look around all four wheels for wet spots ie fluid on the ground. If you find no leaks anywhere and the reservoir is full you probably need anew master cylinder. Should only cost about $50 and are easy to change out.

Fluid is leaking on all four wheels. 2006 GS300

Check your brake fluid reservoir if you are low. Other than that, the only parts with fluid are the shocks.

There are no brakes on my 1997 jeep cherokee the brakes go all the way to the floor already replaced the brake pads

Hi:
Your problem is related to the master cylinder, wheel cylinders, or the brake lines. First check the brake fluid level. Check the inside of all four wheels and look for signs of brake fluid leakage. If you don't see any leaks, and the brake fluid reservoir is full, then you most likely have a bad brake master cylinder. If you do find a leak at any wheel, and fluid level is down, then concentrate your repair efforts in the area of the leak.

Master cylinder needs replacing. Dealer told me fluid is leaking and making the traction light come on. Is this true?

if your fluid leak is around brake caliper or wheel cylinder fluid will leak on brake drum or rotor.causing wheel slippage.which will cause traction light to come on.check all four wheels brake calipers and wheel cylinders.look for signs of leaking around the seal area.

have your lines checked for leaks. if the rear brakes are drum brakes check your wheel cylinders (look under the back of the car and if the back of one tire is dry and ther other is wet and its all up into your wheel well theres your culpret). check your brake calipers to make sure fluid isn't slowly leaking past the piston (that could get ugly VERY quick and you would lose brakes and it always seems to happen on a hill too) if those are fine i would check your master cylinder

Brakes go all the way to the floor and is hard to stop. How can we check to see if it is the master cylinder or the brake booster, or the other little valve thingy that is black but has no name on it.

Look for liquid around the wheels or dripping on the ground, if a wheel cylinder or caliper isn't leaking you need a master cylinder. Get it fixed by a pro.
