SOURCE: 2001 Escort ZX2. Where are the impact sensors

AIR BAG (SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM) General Information The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) is designed to work in conjunction with the standard three-point safety belts to reduce injury in a head-on collision. WARNING
The SRS can actually cause physical injury or death if the safety belts are not used, or if the manufacturer's warnings are not followed. The manufacturer's warnings can be found in your owner's manual, or, in some cases, on your sun visors. Depending on your vehicle, the SRS may be comprised of some or all of the following components:

  • Driver's side air bag module
  • Passenger's side air bag module
  • Air bag diagnostic monitor computer
  • Left and right-hand radiator primary crash air bag sensor and bracket
  • Center cowl safing rear air bag sensor and bracket
  • Left-hand kick panel safing rear air bag sensor and brackets
  • Air bag warning indicator
  • Tone generator (internal to the air bag diagnostic monitor)
  • Electrical wiring
  • Air bag Electronic Crash Sensor (ECS)
The sensors in the car are designed to detect a severe frontal impact. When at least one of the primary crash sensors and the center cowl safing rear air bag sensor close at the same time, electric current flows to the inflator and ignites the chemicals. The chemicals burn rapidly in the metal container. This burning produces nitrogen gas and small amounts of dust, both the gas and dust are cooled and filtered during the air bag(s) inflation. The air bag(s) split the trim covers open while inflating. The air bag(s) then rapidly unfold and inflate in front of the driver or passenger. After the air bag(s) have inflated, the gas escapes through holes in the bag(s) and the they will deflate. prev.gif next.gif

B2296 = Crash sensor communications fault.
B2477 = Airbag Control Module configuration failure.

First of all you should access the Airbag Control Module using suitable diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to unlock it. When a new SRS (Airbag) Control Module is replaced in the car, it is "locked" by default from safety reasons. After SRS Control Module unlocking you will be able to correctly configure it. For example: with frontal and lateral curtain airbags & crash sensors, with retract safety belts, ...
Then you will erase all DTC faults from SRS Control Module. I guess that the B2296 fault is caused by the B2477 fault code.

Where is the sensor for the airbag on a yukon 2005 located at on the truck

Front Airbag sensors are located on the radiator support beam behind the bumper. In this video, you can see them. You don't need to remove the bumper - they just have it off to let you see where they are. Should be able to see them if you climb under the truck.

My 2004 f 150 airbags light stays solid for a couple of seconds when I turn the truck on then flashes 4 times then its off then it flashes 2 times then 4 then 2 what's the problem

A LFC ( light Flash Code ) 42 is the front impact severity sensor on a 2004 New Body Style ( should not get this LFC on a 2004 Heritage or Lightning ).

The Front impact severity sensor is located on the center radiator support, open the hood and you will find it next to the ambient air temperature sensor.

The part number is 6L3Z-14B004-AA

You might find cleaning the connector might work, but usually it is a case of the front impact severity sensor is corroded inside the sensor itself, and needs to be replaced.

2003 Explorer sport trac. Airbag light won't go off

it is not reccomedned for a non trained technician to attempt diagnosis and/or repair of an airbag system, your life depends on it......now that the legal disclaimer is out of the way ;) flasdhing code as you describe is called a LFC or lamp fault code. the code you speak of is for.... Impact Sensor Status (Front Impact Severity Sensor Circuit Fault). it is common for these vehicles to have a corroded impact sensor, it is located in front of the radiator, the connector and sensor must be replaced (and soldered in for integrity) should it be corroded. i suggest a dealership for this repair as one false move and inadvertant air bag deployment may result...good luck!

SRS light blinks 3 times

u will have to replace those vehicle impact sensors...remember some vehicles are different . never had to do it the past doesnt always mean its not the problem now...there is also more than those 2 front impact sensors in that vehicle..i know there are a couple inside the vehicle as well. under the front carpet and seats..the impact sensors inside the car are for ur side impact airbags and can be bad or reading deployed even if they didnt blow..good luck ...
