Can't find the amp in my ford explorer

How do I find and gt to the ford amp in a 1999 ford explorer 4dr xlt with the premium sound system? I'm putting in a new stereo and need to put in a bypass wring harness for the ford amp. And where can I find a wiring diagram that will tell me what each color wire is, because I hope to splice into the rear speaker wires and take a few watts from the rear sound to another amp for my subs.

The amp should be located cargo area on the drivers side. You will need to remove the panel to get to it.

Can you replace a stock amp with a after market amp without rewiring speaker 2001 sport track

It depends on whether you have the standard audio system or a premium sound system. The standard system has no factory amplifier, the premium system has a factory amp and some other gimmicks that are hard to interface with. A proper OEM amplifier upgrade will require changing the factory speakers with stronger replacements, as well as adapting the factory head unit output to a signal your new amplifier will like. More often than not, it is more economical and better sounding to just change the factory speakers and run the replacements off your factory system. To drastically improve the sound system, it is more effective to just change everything.

I have a 2004 Ford Explorer, 4x4, xlt and it has been to the Ford Dealer twice because it would die out on me. Okay they said I needed to replace the crankshaft pulley, which we did. Carried it home, same...

Your issue is obviously electrical. Having an XLT myself I would first replace the battery. In some cases if the cells are weak they can cause issues as you described. Cheap fix and you aren't wasting your $$.

Secondly if this doesn't fix it...take it to a shop that specializes in "electrical systems".
The dealer should have caught this but it sounds as though they are stumped. Man made it man can fix it.
Don't get discouraged.

Radio wiring different than everywhere on the web says it is.

the power amp is usually under the back seat.your stereo sounds like the 2000 premium model.take the radio out and go to ford and they will match it up to get you the right info for an aftermarket harness.the ford service manual has the pin out,and you can wire it all from that data.

96 FORD EXPLORER XLT 4X4 LIGHT FLASHING

Does the 4x4 "actually" work because this is a signal that the system has a problem. Its like a check engine light that comes on or flashes when there is a problem with the engine or emission system.
