Question about 1992 Honda Prelude

2 Answers

I have a 92 prelude and it is over heating. Not over heating in idle. Over heating when I coast in neutral or going up an over pass. I've checked the rad and coolant system seems to be cycling fine. No leaks anywhere. I've tested the thermostat also. Any suggestions ?

Your Prelude has two cooling fans ,fan 1 comes on when the engine is at working temperature , fan 2 comes on with the air conditioner . Check that both are working.

Transmission could be running hot. Most times tranny fluid also runs through the sides of the radiator. Or a transmission cooler somewhere near the radiator and in some cases will make temp gauge rise

SOURCE: 04 civic heater blows cold air at idle

you should have hot water on all rad. hoses when the motor is running at a norm. temp. the water is not going through the heater core like it should. you have cutoff valve bad low water are a stopped heater.try a hoter thermostat if none of the above are true.

Creeping crankshaft pulley

Common problem on Honda engine. Get it fixed before the crank throws the pulley completely. Helicoil is the cheapest fix. This happens from 1986 to 199? model years on regular basis

Where is the fuel pump relay on 92 Prelude S?

Up above your gas pedal. It will be a gray box or a brown box. Don't buy a new one, just pry the cover off of it and look close to find the broken solder connection. Heat the faulty pin until the solder puddles around it and your good to go. It's smaller than a human har, look close and you'll see the loose connection.

89 Honda Prelude failing emissions rich

is everything stock? and you have catalitic converter in place?

Stop by Schucks auto supply and have them run the codes. i'm sure there is a code if you cant pass emissions. your check engine light bulb is probably out.

and usually the first cause is the first o2 sensor.

I just bought a 1992 honda prelude, what kind of coolant do i use

50/50 ratio of regular Anti-freeze. Prestone is pretty popular. also consider getting your coolant flushed and filled instead....chances are it hasn't been done anytime before you bought it. it will prevent headaches and save your engine as well. One over heat situation and its likely your engine will be turned into garbage.Heat kills engines.

Idle probs

Check your idle control valve. You might have to replace it, 80-90 bucks new. Or see if there is an air leak from the intake manifold. had the same problem.
