Question about 1996 Lincoln Town Car

The fan speed control on the steering wheel just stopped working. The dash mount fan control works fine. How do you open/remove the steering wheel switch to replace or repair?

There are a few more thing's involved then just fuse's .

Central junction fuse box , behind left side or right side of the dash panel ! Fuse's are - F2.5 - 5amp , F2.11 - 10amp , F2.24 - 15amp , F2.16 10amp .Do you have steering wheel controls ? These controls go through the clock spring inside the steering column ! They break also , but you mite have some other signs ,like air bag light lit on the dash . Could have bad control servo module . You can go to for free wiring diagrams an fuse box lay outs !

2006 toyota prius dash is not lit up. Car runs fine. Cannot see speed, fuel, etc.

Check a nob with a bulb sign on the dash or beside the steering wheel,its the control for the brightness

I have a 95 Ford Contour 6 cyl DOHC, we had ice accumulation last night and stated car ealy this morning and defroster worked fine, ran about 15-20 minutes and it was too early to leave so we shut car off....

the fan may have went out. what your feeling is air coming in as you drive. ford trick for fresh air lol. the fan needs to be tested to see if it has stopped working

How do i install a new dash for 83 mazda rx7

Instrument Panel and Pad REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. If so equipped, unfasten the inside hood release handle.
  3. Remove the steering wheel and the lower steering column cover.
  4. Remove the glove box, switch panel and console. Fig. 1: Loosen the retaining nut to unfasten the inside hood release handle 85810013.jpg

  5. Remove the meter (gauge) hood, heater control panel mounting screws and separate the heater controls from the instrument panel frame. Remove the combination meter.
  6. Remove the air duct(s) and the steering shaft mounting bracket bolts. Allow the column to lower.
  7. Disconnect and label the meter wiring. Unfasten the mounting bolts and remove the crash pad and instrument panel. Fig. 5: Some of the instrument panel attaching bolts are hidden behind removable trim covers or plugs. Carefully pry off the cover . . . 85810006.jpg

    To install:
  8. Position and fasten the crash pad and instrument panel, being careful to route the wiring correctly. Attach the meter wiring to its appropriate connections.
  9. Raise the steering column to its normal operating position and install the steering shaft mounting bracket bolts. Connect the air ducts.
  10. Install the combination meter. Install the heater controls into the instrument panel frame with the mounting screws. Attach the meter hood.
  11. Install the console, switch panel and glove box.
  12. Install the steering wheel column cover and steering wheel.
  13. If applicable, attach the inside hood release handle.
  14. Connect the negative battery cable.

Horn doesn't work climate control blower on works

the resistor block mounted on the fan assembly ,located under the right dash is open.that will give only a high speed fan.check the fuse for the horn,and apply power directly to the horn and see if it can also put a test light on the horn and see if it lights when the horn switch is depressed.if none of those work,the horn switch in the steering wheel is no good.

Have a 1996 crown vic and the horn did work now it doesnt work along with the cruise control my fuese under the dash are good but not mark

If the horn nor the steering wheel mounted cruise control switches work, it is likely that the problem is the contacts that are in the steering wheel and the steering column that send the signal for these switches. You have a circular type contact that rotates with your wheel, and a stationary circular contact on you steering column that the steering wheel fits over. Good Luck. Blower motor control module probably , but without testing that's just a guess . Do you know how to do automotive electrical testing ? Testing B+ to the module ? Do you know where the module is ? You can find a wiring diagram here , There is a fuse for the blower motor in the I/P fuse box , HVAC blower 10amp ,

How do you remove the dash board on a grand marquis 1996

It is best to remove the front seat then remove the outer trim work on the dash which are fastened with clips. Then remove the screws which hold the heater/AC controls and also the dash panel such as speedometer etc. Remove the lower plastic shield from around the steering column and disconnect the transmission gear position indicator cable. Remove the plastic covering between the steering column and the drivers knees. Their are mounting bolts in the dash and under neath as well and also barbed fasteners. Remove the steering wheel column mounting bolts and it's support brackets. Lower the steering column to the floor. Remove the front door coverings located near the door hinges. Be carefull not to break the fasteners. They pry out of the door weather stripping and then you lift up on them. This will give you access to the lower dash mounting brackets.
With the steering column lowered remove the plastic trim under the windshield. It pops out and givces you access to the front dash mounting screws. disconnest the headlight photo cell control, disconnect the clock, radio and all other pigtail connections that would otherwise interfear with removing the dash. I remove the speedometer electronic cluster as well. Disconnect the AC/heater upper and lower duct work. They are generally fastened with screws and and you have to look for them.
The dash is fastened by the previously mentiond screws located below the windshield and by bolts located near the door which can be seen when the trim is removed also by lower bracket that are braced and is easily identified. These bolts heads are # 10 metric. I have probably forgotten a couple of items but this should get you through the worse of it.
The Mercury Grand Marquis and the Crown Victoria both tend to have blend door problems for the climate control and the dash has to come out to access the blend door control.
