Question about 1995 Buick Skylark

95 Skylark stalls?

My 95 Skylark runs fine then stalls like a fuel problem? I wait 45 minutes then it will start. Could it be a fuel pressure regulator? It seams that if it were a fuel pump it would either work or not. I'm perplexed.

It could still be the fuel pump, when it gets warmed up it may not put out or maintain the correct pressure because its geating weak even if you can hear it running, just a few #'s under the recamended pressure and it won't run, but when it cools down it works again, but sooner or later it will go out altogether. Has the fuel filter been chg.? that could do it to and is something that is often overlooked. It would be best that the next time it quits running that would be the time to do a fuel pressure test that way you would know if its a pump problem or something else, Its a easy and cheap test to perform, and at the very least you can elimanate that as the problem.

By installing a fuel pressure gauge on service port on injection rail then drive car if dies pressure should be zero normal range 36-45 psi to keep the engine running low pressure could be stuck open pressure regulator. if pressure stays then you have eliminated fuel and move on to electrical problems such as spark.

turn key and listen to fuel pump if will hum meaning its pressuring the line --if sounds erratic possible going bad may need replacement --check fuel pressure valve by fire wall if weak or sputter either fuel filter or pump---also need to check egr valve if it carboned up or has failed may need cleaning or replacement

Is the check engine light on ?
It sounds like the engine temp sensor is not right, but if that were true you should have a check engine light and a code for the sensor.
Have you checked fuel pressure ?

Need to figure out why the fuel pump is not

Time to do a fuel pressure test to see if its got a bad or posible weak fuel pump. Some times when the pump gets warmed up it may loose pressure, if pump does not maintain a certain pressure or drops a few # under recamended pressure car will not run hense fuel pressure test. You can rent the pressure tester from most major auto parts stores and they can show you how to hook it up and what the pressure should be.
