Question about 2000 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

We just got a 2000 Grand Caravan about 2 months ago. It has about 94,000 mi in it now. All of a sudden, when you turn on the ac, it blows out hot air. It is almost 100 here, and this is not what I need now. What is the likelihood that it is just in need of freon and nothing more? I am bad with cars.

I was told that it does blow mildly cold air but not ice cold air, will that change anything ?

It was just low on freon.

Let's say about 50/50. Open the hood, check along the thin pipeline running from the compressor (some call it the ac motor), through the condensor (the outside aircon radiator) to a little black tank that looks like a soda can. On top of this there should be a sightglass where you can see liquid flowing if the compressor is running and the freon is ok. If the engine is running and the ac is switched on, the ac compressor should be running - the inside part, the outside (pulleys) always run. If it is not running, first check the fuse for the ac, if the fuse is ok the ac might have a leak and then the pressure switch on the thick pipe side will prevent the compressor switch to engage - then the compressor won't run.

Check your ac piping, if it is oily, especially near flare nuts, it could indicate a freon leak. I'm talking about oiliness that doesn't come from the engine or tranny.

I hope this helps :)

It sounds as if it's low on freon, let it run and check the sightglass. If its low on freon the level will be low. I think the compressor might be fine, it definitely sounds as if the freon needs topping up

2001 Dodge Caravan heater blows cold air when stopped

Have you checked the coolant level? What you describe is exactly what happens if the coolant level is low. When stopped at idle, hot coolant is not circulating through the heater core, so no heat. As the engine increases in rpm's when you pull away from the light, the water pump is spinning quicker, and some coolant is making it to the heater core. So check the level, and if it is low, keep an eye on it to see if it drops again. That of course indicates a leak somewhere. Get it fixed, as overheating the engine leads to costly repairs and worse case a new engine. Let me know how you make out with this.

Just a click away, NOT!

Starter solenoid most likely. Check the connections on the solenoid and the starter itself.

2005 dodge grand caravan heat not working. one vent blows warm air and the others just blow reg. air. also ac isnt blowing cold air. freon put in worked for a month now not working.

There is a recall that has something to do with the air/heat system in 2005 Dodge Grand caravans. Recall F01. Here is a link. I had mine done two weeks ago, cost me nothing. My air conditioner was overheating.

Ac/heating problem

Same problem for me. Local garage seems to think replacing the control module in the dash will solve the problem. I also have clicking sounds behind where the relay junction box is (under dash). My problem is intermitant so I'm also thinking that replacing a relay or two might also help.

Abs light stays on & A/C stopped blowing cold air

The BCM (body control module) is the problem, have it replaced, this is a common issue on your van.
