As power steering hoses are subject to high pressure I would suggest that DIY is not to be considered and take it to the steering specialists.

SOURCE: ppower steering pressure hose 1988

There are only 2 hoses in the power steering system.
High pressure feed, and pressure return. They both connect to the power steering pump.
You can get the hoses from a dealer, or a local auto parts store.
Once you have them in hand, they are very simple to identify.

SOURCE: steers hard when turning around

try lucas power steering stop-leak. drain some of the fuild and then pour that in. it is for surging rack & pinions, not just for leaks. if that doesn't work then you may have a defective rebuilt rack.
check power steering pump pressure, might be weak.

SOURCE: Is it possible to change only one hose

If it just the Pressure Hose which has metal at the ends of a rubber hose than you should be able to just change the hose. Link for that would be here:
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Power-Steering-Pressure-Hose-Powercraft_18071027-P_18_R%7CGRP60016_636201111___

now there is also a return hose, which is here:
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Power-Steering-Return-Hose-Powercraft_15990006-P_19_R%7CGRP60016_277020352___

Basically yeah, you can just change out the hoses. Hope I helped.

My power steering is leaking and i dont know what part is leaking, what is the most common part to leak from power steering? and how much would it cost me to get it fixed?

Common part to leak is the high side power steering hose from the pump to the steering rack or steering box. You can replace the hose your self with common tools and you can pick up the hose at Auto Zone with instructions to get the job done your self.

I could go further but i don't know what type of car you have, but you can log on to Auto Zone.com for the price of the hose you need and the instructions free of charge.

Thank you for using Fixya and good luck.

Hello, i need to replace a high pressure power steering hos

The high pressure hose is simple to replace if its not to confined of an area for you. Just un-thread from both sides, fill with power steering fluid, work steering wheel from side to side to work the air out. In between this check fluid levels. If air is still in it will make a whining sound, and bubbles will be visible in the power steering fluid reservoir. Hope I helped you good luck!!

Steering rack leaking fluid

Check the power steering hose to the end at the steering rack. There is a good chance that the hose may be leaking or where the hose connects to the steering rack is where your leak is coming from. Note that power steering fluid is flammable and if sprayed on any hot surface like the exhaust manifold may cause in a car fire. Good luck and Auto Zone should have the replacement hose with the step by step instructions to replacing it.

Power steering pump leaking on the bottom side hose, does pump need to be replaced or can the hose just be replaced and how difficult . 1991 nissan maxima.

If the leak is from the pump unit it will need to be replaced,
If the leak is just from the hose it can be replaced.
Identify the definite source of the leak, before proceeding.
A new hose could probably be fitted by DIY if you have the correct tools.
