If it uses FOB that uses 1 switch for lock/unlock, check if the switch is not stuck at 'ON'. If you have a spare key, try using that one with the first key kept away from the car. Or you can remove the battery from the first FOB.

SOURCE: key will not turn on 2008 chevy hhr

there are two situations that are close to what you describe.

First, is your key STUCK in the ignition? if so, there's a little panel under the steering column, open that, and feel round under there for the latch to release the key. I don't remember what the dealer SAID the issue was, but it was solved with one of many steering column replacements for a different problem.

If the key goes in and out, but won't turn the cylinder... you may have a bad cylinder, a ruined key(bent? run over by car? goobered up lands? plain worn out?) Or, your steering lock is engaged. If it's the first, that's a mechanic replacment(hopefully dealer covered). The second? get a new key. The third? Hold some tension on the steering wheel and turn the key.

Finally, if your battery is dead, or your solenoid is shot, the key won't turn/release either. Use the stuck key removal method, so you can lock your car while waiting on dealer repair.

Mervia. Why is central locking not locking any door?

It's only an educated guess. If all other locks switches are working it' either the switch panel itself or an electrical short. Switches are popular, get it checked first

I have mazda 3 and 2008 model of it the child lock is on i cant unlock it .

Check on the passenger door for a switch. If you have a four door check the rear passenger door It should be on the inside edge of the door or on the panel by the handle and door lock switch. It could also be on the drivers side door. Rich

Why won't the passenger door unlock?

Door Lock System Controls
The Power Door Lock System is controlled by the body control module (BCM) and can be activated by any one of the following:
A door lock switch lock or unlock actuation

A keyless entry transmitter actuation

An automatic door lock or unlock actuation

A last door closed locking (LDCL) actuation
If the driver door cylinder switch feature of the vehicle is functional, the locks may also be operated by a driver door cylinder switch lock or unlock activation.
Power Door Lock Switch Operation
Each door lock switch is wired to the body control module (BCM) through a separate door lock/unlock signal circuit. While these circuits are separated between the BCM and respective door lock switch, they are connected into a single circuit within the BCM. The BCM supplies voltage through the door lock/unlock signal circuits to each door lock switch. When either door lock switch is operated, this supply voltage is pulled to ground, providing the BCM with the required lock or unlock signal. In order for the BCM to distinguish between a lock and unlock signal, the lock switch contains two separate paths for this voltage to flow to the same body ground. When the switch is operated to the unlock position, the supply voltage flows to ground through a 1.5 K?© resistor. When the switch is operated to the lock position, the supply voltage flows to ground through a different part of the switch circuit, which has no resistor. The BCM then interprets the flow of voltage as a lock or unlock request and powers the door lock actuators to the appropriate lock or unlock position.
I'll post a youtube video on how to test the power door locks computer controlled , check it out ! Your problem could be a switch or the lock actuator , BCM , wiring etc.... you need to test it to see !

While im driving it will start locking and unlocking itself rapidly and now whenever i get out and lock it, it will just unlock again and wont stay locked. please help

It might be the Shifter Lock - Unlock switch. Use the following to check:
Look under the dash, on the brake pedal arm. There are one or two switches that activate brake lights and/or shift unlock. Check for loose mounting nut or a missing rubber nubber. Is the brake pedal coming all the way back up? Look on the floor for something not usually found there. These switches are adjustable and it may be as simple as adjusting them. Have a helper look for brake lights on and shift lever unlocked while you push and release the switches with your finger. Depress the brake pedal to get it out of the way. Remember to set the park brake first. Could just be a bad switch or loose connector. Check fuses and the bulbs. Is shifter fully in Park? Also try jiggling the turn signal lever.
Make sure the return spring on brake pedal works properly holding pedal up firmly. It could be "jiggling" while you drive.

The door lock switch on the drivers side of my 2008 HHR does not light up at night. Small problem but hard to see it at night.

Don't fix the thing, cause that will cost more money!! Poor boy fix is to buy the LED keychain light that attaches to your key or keyring.  They cost around $2-$5 depending on where you go.  Probably can buy them off the internet for cheap.

My hhr

your security system has locked u out, try this procedure, 1st lock and unlock the driver door with the key, then follow these instructions.
1) Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "ON" position. Leave it that way for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn the key and take it out. Repeat this process (2) more times (3 times, 30 minutes total) This should reset the PASSKEY system to recognize your key

Chevrolet HHR 2009 when doors locked the fuel tank cap does not.

Take it to your dealer, and demand they fix it.
Seriously, 2009 you should be WELL within your warranty period, unless you commute from Washington DC to Dallas Texas.

One POSSIBLE issue is, aftermarket locking gas caps are sometimes too tall for the door, and prevent it's complete closure. Second issue may be a bad connector on your gas-door locking solenoid.
Finally(and i don't knwo for sure, since mine is NOT a 2009) when you finish filling your tank, did you press the door back into the latched position? If not, then the lock solenoid will actually PREVENT the latching and proper closure from taking place.

Check the gas door for signs of damage in the sheet metal near where the lock engages. to rule this out. With the door latched shut, lock the doors, and set the alarm. Now check with a credit card, or other thin plastic piece, to see if the locking solenoid is "out". If not, that is definitely your issue, and needs to be replaced.
