Question about 2005 Ford Focus

2005 ford F350 6.0 diesel will not build power nor turbo power. Misses and losing coolent. will the egr cooler make it act this way

I have cleaned the egr and it looked if there was moisture in the intake.not blowing white smoke out ex.

Sounds like a head gasket leak on the intake side or intake gasket. Your boost is leaking out and coolant is leaking into the cylinder. Get a bulletproof kit. It is well worth the money

I can't comment on the mechanics skill level, but I'll tell you that you will usually find better technicians at commercial dealerships than you will find at a car store, simply because they see the volume and have more experience.
The glow plugs and injectors are removed during removal of the head(s) if the job is being done correctly. The glow plugs should be inspected and the injectors will get new o-rings... so if there were no problems with the injectors and glow-plugs prior to the repair, there shouldn't be afterwards.
Oil contamination is not common after headgasket leakage, as combustion pressure leaks into the cooling system, not coolant leaking into the engine as can happen on gasoline engines. And there are drains in the cylinder block that can (should) be removed prior to removing the cylinder heads that will prevent coolant from the water jackets from entering the oil galleries when the head is removed... but the oil should be changed after the repair, so any coolant that gets into the oil will be drained.
Cab removal is usually at the preference of the technicain. I don't remove them, but most do. I, like you, fear for noise and vibration and fit issues associated with doing it that way, and do not find it difficult to remove cylinder heads with the body in place.

The only thing that I can recommend to keep it from happening again, is not running a tuner or programmer(not saying that you are)... and make sure you are changing your coolant at the recommended intervals... other than that, you are at the mercy of the headbolts. Most members here will recommend installing head-studs. Your dealer may do it if you supply the parts. Some technicians will, some will not. I fall in the "not" category, as I am being paid by FMC to use the specified parts.

1. check charge air tube,loosing boost pressure=low power and black smoke
2. check for air filter restriction,if it cant breathe it will blow smoke and run like ****
3. check for rotational drag on the turbo compressor wheel, it may be locking up causing low power and black smoke, much like cummins vgt turbo
4.oil quality,poor oil quality, ie long intervals between oil changes.
5. may have a leaking injector, not common with this style of injector but i wouldnt rule it out if nothing else checks out.....hope this helps.

2006 f350 6.0 powerstroke diesel missing. help


there is no wastegate on a 6.0l turbo. its a variable geometry turbocharger and doesn't need it. i have never seen a turbocharger cause a misfire, the turbocharger is most likely not your problem. if you didn't clean the intake out when replacing the egr valve there is a really good chance that the egr is bad again. also, a bad egr cooler can cause repeat egr failure. also, fuel injector control module is a common cause for misfire

05 ford f350 diesel run rough sometimes and sluggish will blue smoke when this happens. What would cause this? I took to ford several times and they told me, no problems.


i would check egr valve first for coking/carbon build-up or blockage it is located right @ front of engine two bolts holding down remove bolts twist a little to get o-ring loose then pull up out of intake manifold you will see the carbon build -up present also look thru hole that it came out of if it is wet you could have a rupatured egr cooler hence the smoke there may me trouble codes present keeping in mind that ford didn,t think that certain conditions didn,t warrant illuminating the mil lamp but just store in memoery and can be checked with a code reader

My 2004 was doing the same thing and it was the egr cooler, i bypassed the cooler and replaced the oil cooler while i had the top of the engine apart,problem solved

you didnt specify if this is a 6L or 6.4L since its an 07 it could be either. If 6.0L, White smoke typically indicates a blown egr cooler and this usually damages the egr valve which may cause it to fail open allowing the coolant to enter the combustion chambers and be burnt and cause white smoke, If its a 6.4L I have seen the highside turbo bearings fail causing poor performance and seal failure resulting in oil getting into exhaust, high exhaust temps make it burn and it may appear as a whitish colored smoke depending on severity. Hopefully for you its a 6.0L becuase the 6.4L turbo r&r is a repair where we remove the entire cab from the truck. However your not much better off with 6.0L since egr cooler/oil cooler job can easily run you $1500-2000.

well the question is where did the coolant go. if it didnt leak out it must have went out the pipe. As you stated, white smoke, white smoke is coolant. You definately need to get this to the shop. You cannot drive it this way or further damage will occur.
