Question about Ford F-150
2001 Ford F-150 4.6 liter Romeo Engine. Timing chain guide was damaged and pieces had been drawn into oil pan and clogged the oil pump screen so oil pressure was reduced. You could hear the passenger side chain slapping around. The diver side appeared fine. So I replaced both timing chain, timing chain sprockets, tensioners, and guides. As engine has over 200,000 miles I also replaced the oil pump, oil pump screen, the water pump and all applicable gaskets/seals. Recently replaced spark plugs and boots so I just cleaned and checked gaps. Cleaned fuel injectors and all connectors prior to installation. Carefully positioned the number one cylinder to TDC with keyway set to 90 degrees to the valve cover mounting surface as instructed. Unfortunately the camshaft position tool I ordered was not the right one for my vehicle and no local auto stores or Ford dealers had available so I used C clamps and wood wedges to keep camshafts from moving. Well the driver side moved slightly but I was able to move back into place when installing the new chain. The motor is running smoothly when in park but when placed in gear at idle begins to shake badly and when driven runs poorly, poor acceleration from start and noticeable loss of power. I checked codes and I am getting P0401 which points to a problem with EGR or related components. P0171 System to Lean Bank 1. P0175 System Too Rich Bank 2. P0306 Cylinder 6 misfire. I have checked and cleaned with contact cleaner all connectors that were removed. I also have checked all vacuum lines and their connections cleared the codes but they have returned. My question is before I continue chasing my tail could these problems be caused by the camshaft moving and now the timing is off?? None of these codes came up prior to this overhaul and engine was running fine until the timing chain guide fell apart.
In my mind,from what you have laid out.(thank you by the way some people give you no details) this has to be a timing problem.The fact that one bank is lean and the other bank runs rich leads me to conclude this.Could you have gotten the cams turned(or a helpful friend perhaps) more than you thought? I'm afraid you have to double check the chain positions in relation to the timing marks.I know that this is a lot of work but I see no other option.good luck

Cam shaft moving... i wouldn't think the shaft moving would do it, nothing was running, but your timing is more then likely off if you didnt time it to factory settings if you have ..then
the codes bank 1 and 2 could be pointing to your O2 sensors EGR is very much aprt of the O2's and it's function.
