Question about 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Truck
The bus has been sitting for a while and will not start. someone advised me to change the fuel filters...I can not locate them
I work on school buses and every Cummins engine I have ever seen has a fuel filter mounted to the engine on the left side (opposite the turbo). On that era It is most likely an element in a canister type. there should be a plastic lid about 5" around. The lid has a 1/2" square hole for a 1/2" drive tool. You have to access it from the top. Most body builders, BB included, have a primary filter/fuel water separator back by the tank. Also, there will be an electric lift pump near/under the filter housing that is a common failure you should hear it come on for a few seconds with the key on and the engine off.

The diesel fuel filter should be located on the firewall and should be a spin on/off filter like an oil filter and must be filled with diesel fuel before installation. if you go buy the new one first it will help you locate it on your bus

SOURCE: fuel filter/pump
To my knowledge, both are integrated in a single unit together with the fuel level sending unit, the float and a return motor. They are in a coffee-can sized assembly inside the fuel tank removal from the top. The big job is bringing the fuel tank down.
A temporary workaround on stuck pump is to bang on the bottom of the fuel tank with the ignition switch ON.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: fuel filter location
Dodge Stratus fuel filter location, 2001-2002, access top of the gas tank from under the rear seat. Remove the sending unit with filter attached, replace in reverse order of removal. I found having plenty of lighting in there made a difference. Be careful of the gasket and seals and they can be re-used, dont bend the sensor parts or your gas gauge will will be FUBAR. Use proper tools for removing the retaining ring, don't get stupid and start making sparks with a hammer & a screw driver.
