Get your oil pressure checked with a gauge. Valve gear noise is more of a light clicking.

Most probably the lifter has gone bad, but if it is a LOUD knocking sound, it is possible one of the crankshaft / connecting rod bearings has been damaged. Usually a bad valve gives more of a "clicking" sound.
A bad camshaft lobe will also cause a "knocking" sound usually with an engine with high mileage.

2003 deville engine knocks at idle but when u drive knocking goes way down almost cant hear it

The knocking sound that you hear may be coming from lifters, crank bearings or piston slap. How old is the oil change, is there enough oil inside the engine, and is it due? How many miles are on this engine? All of these suggestions are normal with higher mileage vehicles. The only one that doesn't involve rebuilding the motor is the lifters. A lot of times replacing the hydraulic cams will fix lifter noise. I hope this is what you were looking for please write back. If you have any questions, let me know, good luck.

I have a 1996 dodge. ram 3500 with the v10. There is s knocking noise from under left valve cover. it goes away at about 2500 rpm untill it shifts then it's right back.

If it's upper engine noise it could just be sticking hydraulic lifters if the sound isn't constant. If it's more pronounced at a cold start that is probably all it is. A couple of things to try is Lucas Oil Stabilizer in your oil. If the sound reduces more than usual then it's the lifters. You can also try doing a seafoam treatment on the engine. There are several instructional videos on youtube for that. Also check to see if there are any Dodge v10 truck forums. They could have more specific info on the lifter tick.

Makes a knocking noise when starts and then goes away.

if this engine has hydraulic valve lifters, then it could be a weak hydraulic lifter that pumps up once the oil warms up. Hopefully you dont have low oil pressure. Does the oil light stay on for a while after you start the engine. If it does that could cause your engine to knock

My 95 deville makes a rattling sound from the engine compartment after the engine is warm

Is this during idle or while driving ? My older GM cars were prone to collapsed hydraulic valve lifters....usually from wear or lack of oil pressure to the lifters while idling.
If you hear this only while driving or accellerating.... it's likely a spark knock sound (Engine internal damage likely if you leave this situation unchecked) It may be a 'timing' problem. Get help soon !

I would not believe any thing some parts store loser told you. Theres not a V8 built that doesnt have hydraulic lifters, unless its some fancy racin engine. It has hydraulic lifters, but unless you dont change your oil every 5k miles and/or use some cheap oil, there should be no problems. You should have a real mechanic look at it, and verify that you have good oil pressure. If it does, I would change the oil and use some MOBIL 1 and drive it, the oil will clean the lifters somewhat. If the eng has low oil pressure, that will need to be addressed.

sounds like lifters, rods normally make a knocking sound try putting a couple of bottles of engine flush in and run the car around the block a couple of time then drain the oil and change the filter and replace the oil with a quality 15w 40 grade oil and see if the noise clears up. if it is still there you can try product called moreys oil addative this often helps quiet down liftes if still no good oyu may need to replace your lifters

Motor knocks when first started

It sounds like the lifters are draining down over night. When was the last time you changed the oil? A fresh oil change may do the trick, if not try some hydraulic lifter additive ( you just add to the engine oil)
