Question about 2003 Acura 3.2TL

Open Question

03 acura tl: hard shift, had it rebuilt and still shifts hard

Its back at the tranny place now, they say they replaced all the internal parts covered by the warranty, but its still shifts hard and a shutter between 1st and 2nd.
Asked about the valve body and they said they didn't replace it. also asked about solenoid pak and that was not replaced either<
I am at a loss when it comes to transmissions so my question is, what causes the transmission to shutter and shift so hard? This way I can be more suggestive towards the repair facility, and have a little more knowledge.

SOURCE: Replacing HID headlight in 2004 Acura TL

HID Bulb Replacement

A transient high tension (25,000 V ) occurs at the bulb sockets of the high intensity discharge (HID) lamps when the combination light switch is turned ON, it may cause serious electrical shock or electrocution if you do not observe the cautions below.

  • Never turn on the combination light switch before fitting the HID bulbs to their bulb sockets and completing the reassembly of the headlight assembly.
  • Do not service the headlights assembly in wet conditions, such as rain or snow, near a sprinkler system, or when your hands are wet to prevent electrocution.
  • Do not touch the surface of the HID bulbs with your bare hands and do not stain it with any oils and fats.
  • Do not disassemble the inverter unit and the ignitor unit.
  • Do not turn on the HID bulb by using a power source other than the battery mounted on your vehicle.
  1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the radio and the navigation system, then write down the XM radio channel preset. Make sure the ignition switch is OFF.
  2. Turn the combination light switch OFF.
  3. Disconnect the battery negative cable, then disconnect the positive cable.
  4. Remove the headlight assembly.
  1. Remove the Torx bolt using a Torx T20 bit.
  2. Turn the cover (A) 45 ° counterclockwise to remove it from the headlight assembly.
  1. Turn the socket (A) 45 ° counterclockwise to remove it from the bulb (B).
  2. Pull the retaining spring (C) away from the bulb then remove the bulb.
  3. Make sure the bulb harness (D) is routed correctly so it does not contact the reflector (E).
  4. Install the new bulb in the reverse order of removal. Make sure the notches in the bulb align with the tabs in the headlight.
  5. After reconnecting the battery, enter the anti-theft codes for the radio and the navigation system, then enter the customer's XM radio channel presets.

SOURCE: intermitten hard shift 1-2, 2-3, flare shift into 4th

The trani is electronically controlled. without a diagnostic computer you are not going to know. It may be the speed sensors (for the trani.) but thats a guess. how long since the last trani service. Fluid level and condition can affect its perfomance. Good luck.

How do i replace/remove the shift lever cover on an automatic 2005 acura tl? It got sticky and now doesn shift into gear well.

All cars have this small opening on the shifter gate. It is always on the left side of the shifter when the shifter is on PARK. Pry that open and insert the car key. That should override the safety switch and let you shift the car off PARK.

The throttle valve cable controls the transmission pressure. Adjusting this cable is the most important step when installing a 700R4 or 200R4 transmission.

Just had trany rebuilt have changed all internal electrical parts after driving a couple of days on rough roads I loose low and overdrive

Have you check the shifting module ; I dont know of any place offer bench testing to see if the module is working properly...its common for it to also fail over time causing it not to shift properly assuming the tranny is rebuilt properly. If you have to re-place the module check ebay for a used and new replacement, it will save you lots of money.

2003 acura tl won't crank over.

Sounds like tranny froze up. Not what you wanted to hear, but the shop that put the tranny in should have given you a warranty. The lights came on, because the engine stalled. Please rate me if you find this helpful, thank you.
