SOURCE: 2005 vw jetta radiator cooling fan wont shut off

Check for a switch at lower part of rad. Should see a wire harness & plug on a sensor at bottom of rad. This sensor/switch also operates fan on/off according to coolant temperature. You may need to disconnect battery to get at it safely.

SOURCE: Radiator fan stayed on and drained the battery, why?

I would venture to guess that, based on past experience, that the problem is more likely to be the thermo-switch in the radiator. Find what looks like a large plug in the lower part of the radiator it will have two electrical jacks. If you test this with a meter and there is continuity when cold, there lies the problem. If not then i would suspect a fused relay (pricier to buy). You would find it located just above the fuses... Hope this helps...;-)

SOURCE: test radiator cooling fans

Hello,

they should come on at app. 90 deg. celsius (190 F) .

It is a common problem with the beetle, the cause is a malfunction in the cooling control module.

The module is surveilled by the on board diagnosis system, so you should bring the car to the shop and let them run some tests with the diagnosis computer.

Check the fan relay.it may be under the hood in a fuse panel or on the fenderwell or radiator support. My guess is a stuck or faulty relay.

VW Caddy with cooler fan n/s which spontaneously comes on and off throughout day and night and is running battery down. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

My first guess would be a faulty fan relay, but you would need to make sure it is not getting a ground signal from somewhere. The computer is supposed to ground the relay when it wants the fan to run.

2001 vw cabrio radiator fan doesnt turn on

You should be able to jumper the relay to make the fan run. If you do that and the fan does not run, expect to find a bad fan motor.
If you jumper the relay and the fan runs, and the relay is good, the problem is in the computer or wiring to the sensor.

This is a common problem with the VW..and no one has an answer WHY. (including VW mechanics)

THIS IS A RECALL ISSUE and should be implemented
