Question about 1990 Ford Ranger SuperCab

1 Answer

I have a 1990 ford ranger and have lost all power. No headlights, no turn signals, no radio, no nothing. it happened over night with no warning. This truck has the voltage regulator on the altinator both tested fine. Starter soleniod replaced all fuses look fine. Battery tested as well and is fine. When this happened I turned the key on and jumped the truck with the starter solenoid to get it home but will not start like that anymore. If anyone has any help please forward Thanks

Pull on the fusible links at the starter solenoid on the inner fender, one may be corroded or blown.

SOURCE: turn the key and nothing happens

check the neutral safty switch, if this is bad it will not start in park. put it ineutral and see if it starts. if so switch is bad. also the vehicles made lately have a switch in back of brake pedal witch means brake has to be pressed to start car. check safety switch first.

My father in law has a 96 Ford Ranger. The turn signals work until you turn on the headlights or press the brakes. Any ideas as to why this started happening?

Sounds like a wire is shorted out, so remove one side turn signal light and try it again to isolate which side is shorting out. Could be sockets which corrode, so you have to narrow down problem, same for headlights, unplug bulb one side at a time and see if that changes and your turn signals work again.

Good luck,

I have power but my 1990 ford ranger clicks loudly and wont turn

Starter could be stuck..
If you are SURE you battery is fully charged with no dead cells..
Try --
(takes 2 peopl) -
Turn the key like you are trying to start it.
At the SAME time - smack the starter with a small hammer not too too hard..
Let me know what happens..
