Question about 1992 Lincoln Town Car

I think my a/c is low on freon but I can't get it to take any.

I can't get the a/c to take any Freon. Is there a way to override the compressor shutoff?

You can run a hot wire to the compressor clutch to activate the compressor, or you can shake the can of R143a like a coke can forcing the R134a to build pressure in the can making it fill the system which will pressurize it. One pressurized the compressor will pull the rest of the R143a in to the system, note: where gloves or have a shop towel to hold the can, it gets cold. You may need two to four cans if it's that empty but make sure you do not over charge the system. Good luck and hope this helps.

1. Are you trying to recharge with 134a or a retro gas like r12a?
2. Does the hose kit you are using to charge have a small guage on it? if so, what does it show when you attach it to the car connection? If it shows nothing, at the connection fitting, some have a thump screw that needs to be turned in to open the connetion port on the car in order to charge.
3. The lincoln has 2 low pressure cut-outs I believe. At least my 94 did and by passing them is not advised.
Hope this helps, if not let me know and I will do my best to assist you.

Putting freon in system using artic freeze compressor cycling way to fast I think probably every 15 seconds.

The compressor is doing this because the system is low on refridgerent, did you pull at least a 30" vacuum on the system before starting to charge it?

You can't. Service the system, fix the leak which is the front AC compressor seal.

AC trouble will not take freon.

Have you used gauges on both high and low? Perhaps system is full but you have a bad high or low pressure switch.

Ac compressor cycling with no cool air blowing inside

Depending on how much freon is in the system, it could be a faulty low pressure switch or a faulty clutch.
You would jumper the low pressure switch to eliminate it for a test.

My compressor will not come on ,they say if freon is low that could cause it ,but I think I have to have the compressor on to add freon

No it does not, you can add R134a to the low side of the system and when the low side pressure reaches the minimum psi the compressor will kick in. If you need to add more than 1 can then you may have a leak and will need to have it serviced.

Ac clutch

fuse could be blown or freon level is low in system. Ac units think of like a basketball with air loss over time likewise in an older ac unit with rubber seals deteriorating low freon level will not allow compressor to engage

Ac won't get cold anymore power to compressor but won't click on clutch won't engage possible problems are compressor or evaporator what do you think?

Has the Freon been checked with a gauge to see if there is enough Freon to allow the system to work. Low or no Freon will not allow the compressor to engage. The low pressure switch is most likely activated due to low freon, and will cause this condition.

How do you jump a/c compressor so it will take the freon?

The interuptions in compressor engagement is due to low side drops which is controlled by the pressure switch mounted on the low hose or large metal accumulator on the passenger side. Low side hoses are larger and the accumulator is on the passenger side engine compartment...a paper clip works fine jumping this low side pressure switch out until freon pressures increase enough to keep compressor running to accept freon.

Tahoe Air Conditioning - No Electricity to Compressor

With the engine NOT running, pull the connection to the compressor clutch and hit the terminals with 12 volts from the battery. If the clutch clicks it's OK and probably is not working because of a low freon interlock if there is one.

You said you added a can of freon...... was the clutch working when you did this? If it all went sour when you added the can , could you have done it wrong and dumped the rest of the freon?
