2008 chevy express 3500 6.0 fuel pump no power was driving it and it just quit replaced pump still nothing just cranks over


Engine cranking, did you check for spark at the plugs, also, check fuel injector pulse. Any applicable trouble codes?
When you first turn on the key, no crank, can you hear the pump run for a couple seconds?
If only a fuel issue, jump the relay to see if pump will run. Unplug relay, use jumper wire between terminals 30 and 87, the pump should run, don't need to use your key. As you can see, terminal 30 is hot all the time. Also, check that fuse.

How to jump start a vehicle safely


You have a dead battery and need a jump start. There is the right way and the wrong way to accomplish a jump start safely. Because of the potentially severe hazards due to improper use of jumper cables it must be done correctly. Auto batteries contain Sulphuric Acid which can blind you, or at the very least burn your skin. Also auto batteries vent off Hydrogen Gas which is highly explosive even from the slightest spark. Because of this danger it is critical to attach the jumper cables in a precise sequence. 1. Park the vehicle with the GOOD battery close to the vehicle with the BAD battery but do not let the vehicle touch each other. Make sure the cables are not routed so as to touch any moving parts, such as a fan blade. 2. Attach the jumper cable Positive + terminal to the GOOD battery Positive + terminal. 3. Attach the other end of the jumper cable Positive + terminal to the BAD battery Positive + terminal. 4. Attach the Negative - jumper cable terminal to the GOOD battery Negative - terminal. 5. Attach the last jumper cable Negative - terminal to a heavy metal ground part of the engine and NOT to the dead battery Negative - terminal. Reason being this last connection will cause a spark, and you do not want a spark next to the battery where it could ignite the Hydrogen. 6. If the engine of the donor vehicle with the good battery was not left running, start the engine and let it run for 2-3 minutes to put a charge in the bad battery. 7. Start the vehicle with the BAD battery and then remove the jumper cables from the batteries in the exact opposite order you installed them.

This information is straight out of the 1997 Breeze/Stratus/Cirrus Factory Service Manual (Yes I paid the $90 for it years ago)

Automatic Shutdown (ASD) sense - PCM Input

The ASD sense circuit informs the PCM when the ASD relay energizes. A 12 volt signal at this input indicated to the PCM that the ASD has been activated. This input is used only to sense that the ASD relay is energized.
When energized, the ASD relay supplies battery voltage to the fuel injectors, ignition coils, and the heating element in each oxygen sensor. If the PCM does not receive 12 volts from this input after grounding the ASD reley, it sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).

Automatic Shutdown Relay - PCM Output

The PCM operates the Automatic Shutdown (ASD) relay and fuel pump relay through one ground path. The PCM operates them by switching the ground path for the solenoid side of the realys on and off. Both realys turn on and off at the same time.
The ASD relay connects battery voltage to the fuel injectors and ignition coil. The fuel pump relay connects battery voltage to the fuel pump.
A buss bar in the power distribution center (PDC) supplies voltage to the solenoid side and contact side of the relay. The ASD relay power circuit contains a 20 amp fuse between the buss bar in the PDC and teh relay. The fuse also protects the power circuit for the fuel pump relay and pump. The fuse is located in teh PDC.
The PCM controls the relay by switching the ground path for the solenoid side of the relay on and off. The PCM turns the ground path off when the ignition switch is in the Off position. When the ignition switch is in the On or Crank position, the PCM monitors the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor signals to determine engine speed and ignition timing (coil dwell). If the PCM does not receive the crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position when the ignition switch is in teh Run position, it will de-energize teh ASD relay.
The ASD relay and fuel pump relay are located in the PDC near the battery. The inside top of the PCD cover has a label showing relay and fuse location.

ASD and Fuel Pump Relays

The following description of operation and tests apply only to the Automatic Shutdown (ASD) and fuel pump relays. The terminals on the bottom of each relay are numbered.

OPERATION
- Terminal number 30 is connected to battery voltage. For both the ASD and fuel pump relays, terminal 30 is connected to battery voltage at all times.
- The PCM grounds the coil side of the relay through terminal number 85.
- Terminal number 86 supplies voltage to the coil side of the relay.
- When the PCM de-energizes the ASD and fuel pump relays, terminal number 87A connects to terminal 30. This is the Off position. In the off position, voltage is not supplied to the rest of the circuit. Terminal 87A is the center terminal on the relay.
- When the PCM energizes the ASD and fuel pump relays, terminal 87 connects to terminal 30. This is the On position. Terminal 87 supplies voltage to the rest of the curcuit.

TESTING
The following procedure applies to the ASD and fuel pump relays.
(1) Remove relay from connector before testing.
(2) With the relay removed from the vehicle, use an ohmmeter to check the resistance between terminals 85 and 86. The resistance shoud be 75±5 ohms.
(3) Connect the ohmmeter between terminals 30 and 87A. The ohmmeter should show continuity between terminals 30 and 87A.
(4) Connect the ohmmeter between between terminals 87 and 30. The ohmmeter should not show continuity at this time.
(5) Connect one end of a jumper wire (16 guage or smaller) to relay terminal 85. Connect the other end of the jumper wire to the ground side of a 12 volt power source.
(6) Connect on end of another jumper wire (16 guage or smaller) to the power side of the 12 volt power source. Do not attach the other end of the jumper wire to the relay at this time.

WARNING: DO NOT ALLOW OHMMETER TO CONTACT TERMINALS 85 OR 86 DURING THIS TEST.

(7) Attach the other end of the jumper wire to relay terminal 86. This activates the relay. The ohmmeter should now show continuity between relay terminals 87 and 30. The ohmmeter should not show continuity between relay terminals 87A and 30.
(8) Disconnect jumper wires.
(9) Replace the relay if it did not pass the continuity and resistance tests. If the relay passed the tests, is operates properly. Check the remainder of the ASD and fuel pump curcuits.

I know you said you replaced the relay, and this is a test procedure for the relay, but I have bought bad parts in the past. The description before the test procedure at least gives you an idea of what components are wired through and controlled by the relay. One of those may be faulty. Dont know which fuse operates fuel pump


) Unplug the main relay and then turn the key from off to ON(II).

2) Use a jumper wire or paperclip to jump terminal 1 to terminal 7 in the main relay plug. Does the fuel pump run?

3) Now use the jumper wire or paperclip to jump terminal 5 to terminal 7 in the main relay plug. Does the fuel pump run?

How do you know fuel pump is bad, is there anyway it can be checked?


Well you use a fuel pressure gauge to check pressure at the injector rail, and you can check for power and ground at the gas tank to make sure the pump is running.

What's the best way to get diesel out of a 1998


If you could find the fuel pump relay, and figure out which terminals are which where the relay plugs in, then you could jumper the two terminals that are the power source and the fuel pump wire terminal. Then the pump would run. You can break the fuel line apart anywhere that is handy and catch the gas coming out. Another way is to break the line somewhere, pull the pump electrical connector apart at the gas tank, and run jumper wires from a nearby battery to power the pump and empty the tank.

Repacing fuel filter on 1996 intrepid


1) Relieve the fuel system pressure by first removing the fuel pump relay from the Power Distribution Center. Then, start the engine and let it to run until it stalls. Try starting it again and allow it to run until it stalls. Continue restarting the engine until the car will no longer start. Turn off the ignition.
2) Disconnect one electrical connector from an injector. Use an alligator clip to connect an end of a jumper wire to either injector terminal. Connect the other end of the jumper wire to the positive side of the battery. Then, connect an end of a second jumper wire to the other injector terminal. Very briefly touch the other end of the jumper wire to a ground.
3) Locate the fuel filter, which is part of the fuel pressure regulator mounted on the fuel pump module. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then lower the fuel tank. Disconnect the fuel lines from the filter.
4) Remove the fuel line from the pressure regulator. Remove the filter/regulator by pushing in on the locking tab on the filter as you turn the regulator to unlock it. Then, pull it straight up.
5) Push the new fuel filter into the fuel pump module. Turn to lock it in place. Connect the fuel lines, and then you can reinstall the fuel tank. Check for leaks when you start the engine on your Dodge Intrepid.

Where is the fuel filter for 4.0 v6 cherokee located


  • Disconnect the negative battery cable and then remove the fuel tank cap to release fuel tank pressure. Remove the fuel pump relay from the PDC. Start the engine and allow it to run until it stops. Select any injector and unplug its connector.

    Connect a jumper wire from an injector terminal to the positive battery terminal. Then, connect the other jumper wire to the other battery terminal. Briefly touch the end to the negative battery terminal.

    Locate the fuel filter/pressure regulator near the front of the fuel tank, mounted to the body above the rear axle. Disconnect the fuel supply, fuel return and fuel pressure lines. Remove the mounting bolts and then the fuel filter/pressure regulator.

    Attach the new fuel filter/pressure regulator to the body and tighten the bolts to 30 in-lbs. Reconnect the fuel supply, fuel return and fuel pressure lines. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Start the engine of your Jeep and check for leaks
