I have a 1997 Chev C1500 with a 4.3L V6 and a blown transmission. How can I tell the model of the transmission?

You might try looking on the driver side door there should be a vin tag there thet might have the numbers your looking for

1997 Chev Cavalier,4 cyl., new plugs & wires, still no power, misfires


Have a compression test run to see if you have a burnt valve or blown head gasket. If you are seeing white smoke out the exhaust, and are loosing coolant with no apparent leak, you have a blown head gasket. You may also have a defective fuel injector.

95 chevy 1500 v6 2wd. the transmission is


lower planetary gearset is shot. They are a weak spot in this trans. Rebuild or replace trans... they generally make alot of metal when they fail

I have a 1998 chev z71 350 Vortec with a blown transmission (push button 4x4) Can i take the transmission out of a 1997 gmc sierra 5.7 liter (Not vortec) (manual shift 4x4) and stick it in my 1998?


Yea as long as they are both manual transmissions everything will bolt up the same.If you use your old transfer case you will still have push button.

yes they will swap out ,most have same sensors and all ,check the plugs on wiring harness before you swap them out make sure,im sure you can cause they both will work in there. hope to help you, thanks robert b.

If it shifts from 1st to 3rd gear also, then you need to have it rebuilt.
I lost reverse and 2nd gear in mine and I had it rebuilt.
Works great now and for the low price of only $1600,,,LOL

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I LOOKED IT UP IN THE HAYNES MANUAL IT SAID YOU HAVE TO JACK THE CAR UP LEVEL, AND THERE IS A PLUG ON THE SIDE OF THE TRANSMITION, YOU TAKE IT OUT IF FLUID COMES OUT THEN YOU ARE GOOD.
