Common problem. ignitor in the distributor.
when it heats up it separates and doesn't work. once it's left to cool it starts again. you can buy the ignitor on its own.

Sugar in a gas Tank

no you have to drop your gas tank clean it out. if you didn't start then just clean gas lines. if you started it then you need a new engine. the sugar gets in the engine and turns to syrup. bad engine.

Backfiring is not going to have anything to do with the level of fuel in the tank. You most likely have burned valves or broken valve springs in your engine. I would do a compression test.

Will not start, turns over but fails to start, seems as if it is not getting gas. Perhaps the fuel pump or sending unit is bad. gas guage does work now either.

can you hear the pump run?? if you can i would start by changing the fuel filter before i droped the tank... also did you check your relay for the fuel pump, under the hood?? the sending unit doesnt send the fuel to the engine, the sending unit is what operates your gauge... so, if your pump is junk and got to drop the tank, the sending unit is built in the pump, so kill 2 birds with one stone, and replace the fuel pump assembly, and everything will work.
hope this helps

Getting no fuel to the engine

Check the fuse for the fuel pump under dash fuse panel...its a red plastic one 10 amp if good turn off all electrical like radio fan etc....real QUIET.... turn on the key.... do you hear the electric fuel pump sort of a whirring noise then it stops quickly( a few seconds)
if you do hear it then have the fuel filter checked for clogging/dirt contamination in the tank...drain flush tank replace fuel filter clean injectors with a flush madditive to a tank of fuel.
If you dont hear the pump have the fuel pump relay tested underhood fuse box, if ok drop the tank and replace the fuel pump you may want to replace the relay as well for safeties sake later on.

ENGIN CRNKS BUT DOESNT TURN OVER. SOUNDS LIKE ITS

The easiest way to tell if your fuel pump is running is have someone inside the vehicle turn the key to the ON position... put your ear against the gas filler.. if you don't hear it buzzing your fuel pump is either bad or not getting power. If your fuel pump is bad, you will have to drop the fuel tank. be careful not to just let it drop down after you loosen the straps, this could lead to dammaged fuel lines.
Good Luck!

I got a 97 ford thunderbird lx when i try and srart it it turns over but wont start?

sounds lie a bad fuel pump. replace your fuel filter first, if that doesnt work then you may need to drop the fuel tank to get the pump out.

Fuel pump location and replacement

You are looking for the constant control relay module- ( CCRM ) see below. The pump will be located inside the fuel tank. Most of the time , its the pump and not the relay but, it wouldn't hurt to check the relay out. Teh relay is housed in the CCRM. Its located behind the engine coolant reservoir.
