1997 Jimmy starts very hard when engine is cold

My 1997 Jimmy has to try to start 3-10 times when the engine is cold, it fires once or twice but won't start. after doing this 3-10 times, (the number of times is getting worse). After it's warmed up, it starts fine for the rest of the day.

On the vortec engines they require 56 pounds of fuel pressure to start a few pounds shy of that you have a dead vortec you will need a fuel pressure guage to verify

When you say it won't start, do you mean it cranks but won't fire, or it just won't crank? If it just won't crank, you could be having an issue with the starter relay. The often become intermittent before failure. Many owners do not know there is a starter relay because it was added as a recall item i order to protect the iginition switch from burnout. The starter relay is located in the very front of the engine compartment, just to the left of the battery, on the back side of the radiator crossmember.

When the engine is cold it has trouble starting. It turns over fine but you have to turn it over many many times. When engine is warm it starts right up.

I would start by confirming it has adequate fuel pressure at cold startup. Pressure should be at least 60 psi.

Think my fuel pump is bad. When I start to drive , gmc jimmy, it jumps between bears and wont hardly get 3000 RPM's

Sounds like it's mis-firing or timing is off. Try a tune up and check your timing

'97 GMC Jimmy: engine turns over but car won't start, electrical?

Sounds like a bad ignition switch but could also be a bad connection to the ICP or just a plain old bad ICP (Instrument control panel). The ICP needs to be able to communicate with the ECM, Brake Control Module and the SDM (sensing and diagnostic module). If these can not "talk" to each other the vehicle will go into a lock out theft mode...assuming it has a factory VAT system. But I would bet on the ignition switch first...seen it many times.

Whining engine

It could be a pully bearing going bad, or your power stearing pump. next time you start it when it's cold try moving your steering wheel left to righ and see if there is any changes. The next time try removing your belt before you start it and see if the noise goes away. The belt could be warn out and hard itll it warms up and soften up. Start with a new belt. Good luck

1995 JIMMY HARD TO START & SOMETIMES WON'T.

Hi: Have owned 9 Blazers and Jimmy's. have never heard of a cold start switch on a Jimmy. If the engine is fireing I would rule out the coil for now. What you are describing sounds to me like low fuel pressure, if the pressure is not around 60 PSI then the injectors will not function correctly. If you have ever driven the vehicle for a while, stopped somewhere and it wouldn't start unril it has sat for a while then chances are the problem is the fuel pump located in the fuel tank.

Most probably ur crank position sensor or the pick-up coil is defective (or nearly). What that does is the computer knows where the No.1 cylinder is so that he knows when to send the spark to the correct spark plug. Now ur computer doesn't seem to know where the No.1 cylinder is, so he fires at random. Eventually the spark lands at the right place at the right time, hence ur engine is long to start.
That is my best guess.
