Question about 2000 Ford Explorer
It sounds like a push rod is knocking. Need to have it checked by a qualified mechanic. Check the oil level. It could be a major problem for you if you keep driving it without taking it to someone.

My mustang is doing the same thing. I am pretty sure its a bent rod in mine. I changed the oil, opened the old oil filter and found a lot of pieces of metal. My car would do the same thing as i accelerated the knocking would get louder

Were the rear muffler tailpipe hangers checked for being broken or missing? even Engine mounts will cause this and because it does making a left turn you would want to check out the right rear one especially and of course if needed replace all of them...also meaning the hangers for the exhaust system..

your description is not clear. the throwout and pilot bearing only work when the pedal is depressed. and dont make knocking noises, so rule that out. If the noise is when the car is moving and in gear, the trans maybe bad. makes noise in all gears at 2200 rpm? trans needs to come apart.
