How can I fix a no start issue? cranks but won't start

Have a 6.0 power stroke cranks won't start. Changed fuel filters and still nothing. I do not own a scan tool. It started off by having lack of power. It started a few times after I changed the fuel filters but now won't start at all.

Yes it's a diesel. Also when I put fuel in filter that is on top of the engine it has bubbles and it bleeds out like its going somewhere could that be a O ring issue in the injectors? The customer said that he did not run out of fuel. He said it start off by lack of power so he changed the filters the he drove it. Then it won't start.

As soon as he changed the filters, he intruced a lot of air into the system. Unless he pre-filled the filters with fuel, there is now the equivalent of the filters' volume of air in th system. Who knows what the original problem may have been...

Thank you I will know more today but I believe he has an issue with either the high pressure fuel pump like you have mentioned or there is a injector issue. I really appreciate this site and all your experts advice.

Uh oh, you may have had to bleed the air out of the fuel system after the filter change. You may damage the fuel pump ($$$$$) by cranking the engine with no fuel to lube the very high pressure fuel pump. It started a few times because there was still fuel in the pump. Now it's dry.

    I'm assuming that it's a diesel.

If all the coils are giving spark now, then you moat likely have gas fouled plugs now,so change them out with new ones, all 8 of them.If you do not have spark on all plug wires, pull the timing belt cover, and align the cam shaft and the cam,to see if the belt has jumped. If It hasn`t,replace the crankshaft sensor.

The 7.3 power stroke is not tha bad sheesh its actually pretty simple ok let me ask some questions here ok lets start simple when cranking does the needle on the tach move to approx. 5-600 ? if not more than likely its a cam sensor in which case there is actually a recall from ford they will fix it free.... yes I said free :) if not my second guess would be the Idm they were notorious for getting moisture in them btw IDM stands for injector driver module and you can find a good reman unit online for 200 "use google" if you have a friend with a high end scanner hook up and watch engine rpm there and also do a "buzz test" no buzz = idm fail another easy thing to do is open the drain on the fuel filter bowl and turn the key on and crank for 1 sec is there fuel shooting out ? if there isnt check fuel pump well that about covers it good luck please let us know whats up :)

SOURCE: Won't start

Maybe your injector circuit is not working. Pull off one injector connector and check for power on one of the two wires to the injector-turn key to on, and one wire should have power. If no power with key on, pull off all injector connectors and recheck for power- a shorted injector may shut down the injector circuit, that's why to pull off all injector connectors. If still no power on one wire to each injector, diagnose the injector drive circuit. Also check the fuse for injectors.

Why won't my 1997 Saturn SL start?

you have spark at the plugs ..thats something

spray stay you mug
into the throttle body see if the motor will cough

tank needs draining and have fresh fuel
fuel pump has a filter and fuel relay

crack the fuel line connection to the rail to see if there is fuel reaching the rail and correct pressure

if sitting 6 years.. not being run regularly
do a compression test
lifters may be stuck
rings may have lost tension

Have a 1996 chevy blasser,,. just bought it,, got it home and won't start,, trys to but nothing,, had the battery tested,, good,.. guy i bought it from say they changed the fuel filter,...

If it cranks but won't start you need to check the fuel pressure. It is very easy to do but you will need the proper gauge to do it. You may be able to rent it from a parts store. You may have a bad or weak pump. Also 4.3 liters are nototious for having cap and rotor issues. Also inspect the coil wire for rubbed spots or evidence of arcing.
