SOURCE: Check Engine Light 1996 Nissan Maxima

The best way is to use a scan tool to clear the codes, that will turn off the light, also disconnecting the battery over night may work, but no completely sure about that, it varies from year to year.

SOURCE: Car sometimes dies at idle and does not set a code

this can be caused by and usually is a sludged up idle speed control valve, follow the instructions below to correct this
, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

My 1996 Nissan Maxima has a milky colour engine oil & white smoke from the exhaust.

you probably have a leaking head, water is getting into the oil. if it does not stop, then try some engine seal, and engine honey. if that doesnt work, be prepared for some major work.

1996 maxima engine dies when pressing clutch

Could be a number of things, firstly i would look for some vacuum leaks, faulty fuel injector/s, faulty fuel pump or fuel regulator, blocked fuel filter, spark plugs/ leads. if problem is still occurring i would highly recommend to take it to the mechanics. there would be nothing worse than your car stalling in the middle of a busy intersection or stalling at high speed ( brakes and power steering stops working).

The car srtart well when cold, after a few minutes the mor stop, and smell gaz take a little time it's start again and stop, when trying to start it it wouldn't i have to take a long time again, sometimes...

This sounds to me like 2 separate problems. The car dying problem is usually a coil problem, ie the coil gets weaker as the car warms up.. Try that. The smelling of fuel in your car is most often the injectors leaking. This is very common in your car.

At low rpm engine dies

Normally this is due to a defective Mass Air Flow Sensor. Install a known good sensor and test drive to see if it repairs the concern. There are no test to check an Mass Air Flow Sensor. Bad ones will check good.

Start with a free code scan at one of the big autoparts stores and that may just point you in the right direction, if not get back to us with trouble codes that came up at test.
