Just noticed water coming from underneath the car when reversing back there was a trail of water

If there is antifreeze in the water, then it comes from somewhere on the engine. An inspection of hoses , radiator and freeze plugs is in order. If there isn't antifreeze in the water, then it is most likely condensate coming from the AC case. This is normal if the humidity is high and you use the AC a lot.

Head gasket or IM gasket? 05 rendezvous overheats..pushing fluid back to top of radiator or to reserve when cap is on. i think there's antifreeze on spark plug threads and maybe in cylinder for

If it has the 3400 v6, better known as the 3.4litre, this motor was prone to head gasket failures. Antifreeze on spark plugs is a sign of head gasket failure, so is antifreeze in the oil. Have a mechanic put a dye in the cooling system that is detected with a certain light and that will tell you exactly where it's coming from. Headgasket repair is not cheap. May be easier and cheaper to replace the motor. Wish you the best!

Car is running hot added coolant runs fine for a while today I was adding coolant to the reserve tank and saw a hose that is loose but can't find where it should be connected. When adding coolant it...

  • There are two hoses on an Antifreeze reservoir tank.
  • One is to allow escape in case of unexpected back pressure or overfill of the reservoir.
  • The other will be a hose that clamps on to the radiator right below the cap on a little spout coming off the fill neck of the radiator. This hose is the actual path the antifreeze takes when the radiator is low pressure pulls the antifreeze out of the reservoir to use.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

I have a 1998 s90 volvo with 226 k miles and it leaks antifreeze. The strange thing is that it does not do it right away after parking the car, it starts later. I can also open the antifreeze reserve tank...

I think I would check the thermostat. You can buy one that opens sooner..Like yours might open at 180...but you can buy them to open at 160....Flush your radiator..Might not be circulating converter could be slowing clogging causing pressure back tour you motor...Car will start back firing sometimes..loose acceleration... That's my list

Coolant coming out of reserve tank

In most cases like this, especially if the car is overheting in the meantime and you have white puffy smoke coming out of the tail pipe, it's a sure sign of a bad head gasket or worse...A cracked head.

I say this only if you notice that the reserve tank keeps filling up and building pressure. What's happening, is there is actual engine blow-by pumping its gasses into the cooling system. The result is what you might see there. The reserve tank fills up and the coolant (what's left of it) seeps and gets sucked into the combustion chamber and gets burned with the fuel. (Well, "steamed" would be a better term there....)

Again, IF that is the case, also look at your oil dipstick and the top of the oil cap. Do the stick and / or the underside of the cap look milky? That's another sign of your vehicle in need of some head work.

Considering the cost and labor involved, I sincerely hope that isn't the case! But just to be sure, those are some things you can check for.

Good luck and I hope this helps! :)

Is the reserve tank cracked or have a deteriorated hose going to the radiator? Remove the tank to find out. A bad seal on the radiator cap can also lose fluid. A coolant leak anywhere can deplete the coolant level in the radiator and reserve tank. Check your owners manual for antifreeze type and mix ratio with water.

Fishy, steam odor coming from AC vents

Forget the radiator tank. Your AC 'Condensate drain' hose is plugged up. This is a common problem. If you know where the hose comes out under the car you can ( carefully ) push a wire up it. If you're lucky it's plugged near the end by a mud-dauber wasp. If not, take it to your dealer and see if you can persuade the write-up guy to show you where the drain outlet is as a gesture of good faith. If they insist on charging you money, consider that when you buy your next car...
