Is the shift lever going threw all the gears? If not, it could be the shift linkage or the shift gate.

SOURCE: my 1994 truck shift fine

Could be as simple as a vacuum line leading to the transmission vacuum modulator is off or the modulator itself is bad, check to see if you have the hoses all connected first, because if there is no vacuum the transmission thinks you are under a heavy load and your foot is to the floor, this means the engine is creating little or no vacuum. So the tranny will stay in a low gear

SOURCE: 94 chevy k1500 wont shift past 2nd gear.

Just read where this can happen due to a computer error. Unhook your battery and this will clear the error. Try driving it and see if that was it.

If the shift lever is what is hard & sticky, get some grease & lube the handle at the joint at the trans. ( Maint. anyway) . The right gear oil? Was it doing it before the oil chg ? How's the clutch feel? Clutch, Pressure plate & throw out bearing poss. Smell any burning smells? One step at a time. Good luck

Have you checked the transmission fluid level in park when the engine and transmission are warmed up? Is it full?
Does the fluid look red like it should or look dark brown and smell burned? If it looks and smells obviously burned, that is an indication of internal damage and it will need to be rebuilt.

Otherwise, there may be another problem with this specific transmission that I am unaware of.

It's possible you may have a faulty air flow meter. Recommend a trip to the garage for an analysis. Motor will not achieve the speed it should have such a defect. OJS

My truck will not shift past 2nd gear. It shift 1st and 2nd and R. No matter what gear you manually shift into it will not go past 2nd gear.

Your transmission should have shift solenoids in it. You could have one that has failed or you could have other internal problems. To acess the shift solenoids you must remove the trans oil pan. If the oil is dark or smells kind of burnt I would suspect bigger problems than a shift soleniod. Also inspect the pan for chunks and a lot of debris. A little bit is normal but more than that is not good.

Transmission seems to shift into gear but will not go

You did more harm than good by changing the filter and fluid. Did you have the system flushed or just drained? If you drained it then you might have gotten some larger particles of dirt caught in a valve body component and thats probably why it wont shift...

1999 ford taurus automatic wont go into any gear -engine is fine

Just a couple of things to check if you haven't compare the smell and apearance of the tranmission oil to so new, if it looks dark and smell burned you probably have a bad transmision, clutches or burned up. Does it whine or make any noise? a stopped up filter will do this. also is it full when warm on the dip tick runniing in park?
