Question about 1995 Ford Aerostar

Open Question

My gear shifter broke on my 95 aerostAr van ford. It just started about a month ago having to mess with the shifter or playing with the wheel while cranking it's like there is a short somewhere or a loose connection. My shifter finally fell into two pieces one one half fell on the floor the other is still in the column but i still have to jam or play with the shifter to get it to start. Took the other part off to see and i don't know excactly what's keeping it from starting. The shifter broke in the middle so I guess is what can I bypass that obviously is affected by the position of the shifter so I can start it up or how can I straight wire it?

SOURCE: loose column shifter

Look under dash where steering column is. Find the connection for the shift cable. see if the mount that the cable end connects to is loose. wiggle it. If it is there are 2 torx screws that mount the bracket to the shift tube that you need to tighten. I think they are a T-27 size bit. This is a common problem on fords. easy fix. I usually will take the screws out and use a thread locking compound in them to stop it from happening again.

How do you access the sparkplugs in a 95 aerostar

Usually through the wheel wells. It might be easier to support the front of the van on jack stands and remove the front tires. It's just not a fun job, but you know what they say " It only hurts till the pain is gone"....Good luck.

Changeing instrument cluster lamps?

the trim surrounding the cluster will be removed at first. Screws are surrounding this trim and needed to be removed
Next remove the retaining screws to the cluster. You may need to shift the shifter to low gear to remove the cluster. Block the rear tire when doing so
Gently remove the cluster and you will see the bulb sockets in the back. They simply unscrew out a half turn

Shift lever on column came loose inside column.

no, u shouldn't have to pull the steering wheel. pull the cover off the column, there are 2 or 4 nuts that hold the column up to the dash, remove them and let the column lay on the seat- u should disconnect your battery before doing so. you can get to the shift tube from there- most likely u'll find that the bushings have gone bad and need replacement.

Transmission Problem in 1991 Ford Aerostar Van.

I dont think so, no. The transmission in the 4.0 L is a standalone tranny made by Ford. I BELIEVE that the 3.0 L engine uses the same transmission that is used in the Ford Ranger.
