05 chevy malibu won't accelrate

Check compression. If its a 4 cylinder that's fairly easy with a compression gauge. All 4 cylinders should be around 180-190 psi. If all 4 are low suspect a jumped timing chain.

Why would my mother in laws 1996 toyota corolla start fine one day and be reallly hard the next day? my mother inlaw called me to look at her car and i went over to see what the problem was. well when i...

While you are comparing day to day events, you are overlooking the problem is consistent with the Mornings' first start. The engine is hard to start after sitting overnight.

The cold start routine is a setting that is suppose to reboot after the engine cools down. This is controlled by a temperature sensor which can be a water sensor or block heat detector. If you have a water gauge you can have 2 similar components and the component that works the water temperature gauge is on a different circuit than the Engine Management control.

Your defective sensor instead provides the temperature information to the Engine Management computer. It cues a change in fuel mix and timing so that the engine starts better and remains at a higher RPM for short time. If you have ever had a car with a carburetor, it duplicates the "choke" function.

Consult an autoparts store for a correct part and its location. At most, there will be some spillage of Antifreeze but it will be minimized if you do it with a cold engine.

Please rate my info.

How can i find out if my 1996 jeep grand cherokee is in correct timing?

Your vehicle has non adjustable timing. The distributor is locked in one position. Your actual timing is adjusted by the computer depending upon information it receives from the engine sensors, the primary ones being the throttle position sensor and MAP sensor.
If the distributor has not been removed at any point, static timing should be fine the way it was set.
Static timing is set by bringing #1 piston to top dead center with the front damper pulley mark indexed to "0" on the timing scale. The rotor should point exactly to the #1 spark plug wire tower, or exactly 180 degrees away from it if you are on the exhaust stroke....One more turn of the crank should put it where you want it in that case.
The two things that can change static timing is removing the distributor and installing it a bit off, or, a worn timing chain that will cause the camshaft to lag behind the crankshaft somewhat, depending upon how badly it has stretched. Your computer can usually compensate for stretch unless it is really excessive, and that generally will not happen unless the engine has over 200K miles on it.
You can find info on testing your sensors in both chilton and haynes manuals. Generally though a bad sensor will generate a fault code that can be read with a scan tool. Most larger parts stores will read your computer for free and give you the codes.

How do i change the battery in my 2004 Porsche cayenne turbo? It appears the dealer charges $250 for one and $350 for the other battery and $280 in labor charges.

First, The Porsche Cayenne can have two batteries. The primary is located under the driver seat and the secondary is under the rear trunk/subwoofer. The battery that usually goes bad is the primary. Most auto stores will NOT change this battery for you because of location (Autozone, Pepboys, Advance, O'rielly, Napa). Its very easy to do but you will need a triple square 10mm bit (autozone or napa carries them)
Remove front plastic trim piece by pulling forward
Using triple square bit unbolt the front two bolts
Tilt seat back (helps to move the seat forward once bolts are removed)
Remove plastic battery protector
Remove/replace new battery
Make sure to plug the vent line back into battery

on the passenger side under the dash is a a/c plug in. it plugs into a blower this part is called blower motor resistor you can look at one on line at 1aauto the plug that plug in to this (on mine) shows slight burn on the plug we are going to replace this resistor and will have to go to junk yard to get used plug . at o'reillys parts store this resistor cost about $25 plus tax if you dont get a used plug you will have to buy the whole wiring harness. (very explensive) hope this info helps you Kris

Wont start

the starter might need to be shimmed. i'm not sure what the starter sounded like when you tried it, but if it sounds like it is grinding, you may need to purchase a shim from the parts store.
i also don't know how long you tried to crank the starter, but it may just be overheating. (they do get ho quickly) if you burn out the solenoid, you are out of luck.
i would take the starter off the motor and have it tested at the autopart store. (some junkyards will do it too, i've had more honest answers from the local junkyard than a few part stores).
