normaly you don't have to force a key to turn no car was manufacture that way you probably may have a stiff ignition key i would advice you unhook the ignition key for replacement or service

Key will not turn in ignition

Probably because your steering lock is activated, if not then you have forced the ignition too much and it needs to be replaced.

Try the following:
Insert Key in ignition
Turn Steering Wheel to left side as much as it can when engine isnt started (apply some force), then try to see if key will turn in ignition.

If it doesn't work: Try same maneuver but turn Steering Wheel to the right instead.

Why ignition won't turn

By far the most likely reason that one can't turn the key in the ignition is because the car was parked with the wheels turned. There is a security feature that locks the steering when the key is removed to prevent a thief from driving the car.
When the car is parked with the front wheels other than strait, the weight of the car will cause the wheels to try to straiten, If this engages the steering lock pressure is put on the ignition switch.
To start the car, look to see what direction the wheels are pointing. grasp the steering wheel and turn it TOWARD the direction the wheels are turning and now start the car.
Other causes may include wrong key, damaged ignition or other causes that may require a professional.

Ignition wont turn

if you mean the key won`t turn to start the car you may have a worn key and or ignition switch. try another key to see if its the key. also make sure there is not tension on the ignition by way of the steering wheel being turned in the full left or right turn causing tension on the ignition.

Would flat battery cause key to get stuck in ignition

No, the battery condition should not affect the key sliding in and out of the ignition.
However, depending on the year of the car and the wear in the steering column, having the front wheels turned when you try to remove the key can cause the key not to come out.
You would need to move the steering wheel left or right as the older cars have a "wheel lock" that can bind up the key.
Be blessed.

you can get a new ignition switch -- but my thought on the matter ( I'm a locksmith ) -- is you might try and see if you can go to a lock shop and see if they can read your key and make a new key to factory spec's. one other thing that causes problems is to many keys on your key ring ( weights down the key when in the ignition and driving -- causing excesive wear on the key AND on the ignition ).. -- if you bought the truck new look to see if you have the ' key code ' writen down somewhere,, or you might be able to get the code from the dealer (?) -- but do not get your keys made from dealer or let them work on the ignition ( way to expensive !!! ) --- go to a auto locksmith and let them look at what you got ( let them look at your key first ). -- ( key by code and/or a key read, only costs about $15 - $20 buck ).

KEY WONT TURN IGNITION

Your car uses a transonder key, a key with a small chip embedded inside. The transponder is matched to the immobilizer unit in your car. When the key is inserted into the ignition, the immobilizer searches for that transponder, if it's not near the ignition, the car will just keep turning over and not start. Your only real options are to replace the steering lock or buy a transponder bypass unit, which I do not recommend. Just do a google search.

The key wont turn the ignition. What is causing

Could be a few things.. But try to eliminate the easiest & least costly first..
Spray some wd40 into the key hole..
Push key in & out several times & do not try to turn it yet..
Repeat a few times - then try to turn it..
Sometimes the key tumblers get dirty & sticky..

If that dose not help - it could be the ignition switch needs to be replaced..

Hope this helps !!
rate me good ;o)
