Both error codes you have are transmission related. P0736 is an error for reverse has wrong gear ratio. P0700 is a general transmission problem code

What does this mean?
The purpose of the automatic transmission is to match the engine's optimum power and torque characteristics to the driver's desired rate of acceleration and speed by auto-selecting different gear ratios or 'speeds' to power the wheels.
Code P0732 When the code P0732 is set in the Powertrain Computer, it means that the Powertrain Computer or PCM is seeing a greater than a specified RPM difference between the rotational speed of the Input RPM Sensor and the Transmission Output RPM Sensor when the vehicle is in 2nd gear. This can occur during shifting or when driving at steady speeds. It often implies that the transmission is slipping.

P0732 Diagnostic Theory for Shops and Technicians
When diagnosing a P0732 code, it is important to record the freeze frame information and then to duplicate the code setting conditions with a test drive. Pay close attention to the engine load, throttle position, RPM, and road speed because a P0732 can be difficult to detect.
One should monitor the RPM input speed and compare that to output speed RPM on a smooth, flat surface after the vehicle is warmed up and the fuel system is in a closed loop. Monitor how the 2nd gear solenoid configuration responds to an increased amount of throttle. The 2nd gear related solenoid should stay in 2nd gear and the transmission should NOT slip.

Tech notesWhen the a transmission solenoid is stuck off, in most cases the problem is not the electrical part of the solenoid; the problem is foreign material obstructing the mechanical function of the solenoid or the flow of the fluid through the transmission valve body. If the transmission fluid is very dirty, it is recommend changing the transmission fluid and if possible removing the transmission pan for further diagnosis. Excessive debris or metal particles on the transmission pan could be an indication that there is a transmission mechanical failure and that the transmission will need to be rebuilt or replaced. When is the code detected?The P0766 code is detected when the ECM has detected a mechanical fault with the solenoid energized, valve stuck off P0766 Description Shift solenoid valve D is turned ON or OFF by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in response to signals sent from the park/neutral position (PNP) switch, vehicle speed and Engine Control Module (ECM) (throttle opening). Gears will then be shifted to the optimum position.

Slow pickup on takeoff


You don't specify make, model, year, engine or transmission, but if an auto, a common cause of this is failure of the 1-2 shift solenoid in the trans, meaning that it cannot find low gears, hence the sluggish takeoff.

It is not an expensive part, but it is best to have the vehicle on a hoist as the trans pan must come off. Also this fault should cause the check engine light or the overdrive light to blink a trouble code.

check the fluid level in the gear box. Too much and not enough will cause overheating. have a pressure test done on the gear box to check for internal problems . Change the transmission fluid. . Have the bands and clutches adjusted to ensure that they are not slipping. If you are pulling trailers /caravans then the weight and speed will be factors that overheat the transmission oil. Run fault codes to check for sensors solenoids and servo faults.

knocking could be anything from slightly out of time ..to bad or lower octane fuel..wrong gas will cause all sorts of running issues

The purpose of the automatic transmission is to match the engine's optimum power and torque characteristics to the driver's desired rate of acceleration and speed by auto-selecting different gear ratios or 'speeds' to power the wheels. The Transmission Range Sensor (also referred to as the PRNDL input and/or neutral safety switch) tells the transmission control module (TCM) and the powertrain control module (PCM) that the transmission is in park, reverse, neutral, drive, low, 2nd, 3rd etc. It is attached directly to the manual valve of transmission, so when the shift lever is moved say from park to drive, the Transmission Range Sensor communicates this critical information to the above mentioned vehicle computer systems.

P0700
Many vehicles have a control module for the automatic transmission called a transmission control module (TCM). The engine control module (ECM) communicates with the TCM to monitor the automatic transmission for faults. If the TCM detects a fault in the automatic transmission and sets a transmission related fault code, the ECM is informed of this also and sets a P0700 in the ECM memory.

When sitting at a light upon takeoff the engine reves up like its in neutral and slams into gear (automatic ******),or whilke driving at speed upon taking foot off gas seems to downshift


The first thing to do is to check the transmission fluid level. If the level is low, you need to find out WHY. It is leaking somewhere...ether from the transmission itself or the transmission cooler lines. If the fluid level is OK, then you need to scan your onboard computer system for possible fault codes that will lead you to the cause of your problem.

The automatic transmissions of today's cars are electonically controlled by the ECM, when a problem arises the transmission will send a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) to your ECM. You will need to take your car to a mechanic to test and replace the Reverse Solenoid in your transmission, the pan will have to be pulled off to do that.
