Oil Change Reset
A press of the OIL CHANGE RESET switch will allow you to
reset the oil life feature to 100% (or your Personalized Oil Reset
Percentage). After you have the oil changed, you must execute
the following procedure. Press the OIL CHANGE RESET switch
and hold for five seconds as the M/C counts down for five
seconds. After a successful reset the Message Center will display
“OIL LIFE RESET TO 100%.” If you have established a
Personalized Oil Reset Percentage, the display will show that
percentage instead of 100%. To ensure accurate oil life
indicators, perform this reset procedure only after an oil change.
Your Personalized Oil Reset Percentage allows you to establish a
smaller oil change interval than the manufacturer’s
recommended interval. To establish your Personalized Oil Reset
Percentage perform the following procedure:
1. Press and hold the OIL CHANGE RESET switch and press
the RESET switch while the display is still counting down
the 5 seconds to reset. The display will change to “START
OIL LIFE AT XXX%.”
2. Press the OIL CHANGE RESET switch until the displayed
percentage is the Personalized Oil Reset Percentage that you
desire. Your choices are 100%, 90%, 80%, 70%, 60%, 50%,
40% and 30%.

This is certainly one of the strangest things I have ever heard as a mechanic. . This almost sounds like some one is playing a game of letting your oil out this vehicle. With no visible leaks no burning smell of oil. However I would recommend that you check the coolant in the radiator and see if the oil is in the coolant. (If they are mixing together) If they are mixing the coolant should have a milky look to it, creamish white. If its good then the only other logical explanation is that the vehicle i s burning alot of oil, but if that was true you would see a grayish blue smoke from tail pipe. If you are 100% sure they are no oil leaks on this vehicle, then this problem is surely strange. Check coolant and get back to me. Good Luck

SOURCE: rear brakes on 2006 f150 need changing

There should be two bolts that hold the caliper to the axle assembly. Remove these two bolts and slide the caliper off. At this point check the rotors for abnormal wear or grooves. Depending on how many miles you have on them I would replace them regardless. Before you insert the new pads into the caliper I like to use a C clamp and a piece of flatstock to force the pistons back to their original location. If you don't do this you will not be able to fit the caliper over the rotor. Before installing the caliper if you did buy the new rotors use some brake cleaner to remove any of the cosmoline oil that they are shipped with. Remember to chock your front wheels or use jackstands if you have enough. Good luck!

you must have just drained the pan? There is much more held in the converter. The one I am rebuilding this week is an 05 and doesn't have a drain plug on it (not many do anymore). I keep losing oil pressure in my 2004 f150 with a 4.6 litre. I have changed the filter and oil. What is the chance that the oil pump is bad? If so is it located inside the oil pan? Can I change the pump...


Ok 3 questions to answer:

1 yes the pump could be bad, but it is not likely.
2 yes it is in the oil pan.
3 yes you can change it without pulling the engine, though it is not easy.

Most common problem for your oil pressure reading to be going away, is the oil pressure sending unit(sensor) it is located next to the oil filter, check and replace if neccessary this sensor first and see if your oil pressure returns to normal. If not then you may have a pump problem. Hope this helps, let me know.

Hi my 2006 F150 king ranch has shut off twice where it locks up for the engine failsafe then says low oil pressure. after turning off then on, it goes away. Any thoughts? The truck is recently purchased...


Your pickup should have thrown a stored code if it has shut down. Get the code extrracted, and see if it indicates a sensor along with something else. I would advise you to install an after market gauge which operates independantly fron the existing oil pressure circuit to verify that it is a low oil pressure condition the next time it happens.Could be a faulty sensor, but it needs to be verified first.

Check the oil level. When was the oil filter replaced. Could be a bad oil pressure sensor. Could be a corroded connector on the oil pressure sensor. Clean and reattach.

Hello mb4494: My name is Roger and I will help you. If by changing the oil pressure sending unit the problem did not change. I would perform a oil pressure test. This is done by removing the oil pressure sensor and inserting a oil pressure gauge. This can be done by yourself or by a repair shop. This needs to be done on a cold engine. Start the engine and observe the oil pressure cold.as the engine warms up observe the pressure. The pressure will drop off as the engine warms up.Should the oil pressure drop below 10 to 12 PSI. then you have internal engine trouble. More then likely a bearing problem. Try dropping the truck into gear and see what the pressure drops off to. Again if the pressure drops below 10 to 12 PSI. you have a problem. I would also check to make sure you have the correct oil switch. a truck with a oil light uses a oil pressure switch. with a gauge you would use a oil pressure sending unit.
