Hello Mark
The only real correct way to repair a leaking head gasket is to remove
the head and replace the gasket, and at the same time have the head checked for cracks, flatness, valves checked etc. at the same time replacing other parts that are worn out that just don't make since to reinstall back on the engine. All of this means big money out of your pocket :o(
Now if you were just looking for a short fix they have engine sealer in a can at most auto stores you can buy that might buy you a little more time, but you better figure out what you plan to do fast if it does seal because it will most likely be short lived.
Good luck and be safe.

What's a major head gasket leak

The head gasket seals the area between the head and engine block. When the seal leaks pressure from the cylinder can leak out and get into the coolant system or just to the outside, depending on the location of the leak. The proper way to fix that issue is to remove the head and install a new gasket along with fixing any other possible issues.

Leaky head gasket

Not that uncommon on those 2.5L engines. Thje permanent fix is to replace the head gasket. Be sure and check cylinder head and the engine block deck for straightness to ensure a good seal with the new head gasket.

Coolant leak

i think you got a head gasket leak,,,if its buring coolant the only thing that will burn it is a leaking head gasket,,its probably leaking into the cylinder and burning it and leaking externally where you see coolant on the tranny,,,replace the head gasket,,,

My daughter's 2000 Altima looks like there is oil in the radiator and no oil in the engine. Is this a blown head gasket? Where is the drain plug for the radiator? Better yet, what is the process for...

Could be a blown Head gasket or cracked head. Should be a drain at the bottom of the radiator I think on the drivers side. You will need to pull the heads off and have them checked Magnifluxed for cracks. If they find none then install new head gaskets and see what happens. I have the torque specs for your head bolts if you need them. Let me know.

Head gasket blown

there are many was a head gasket can blow . sometimes they just leak to the outside sometimes they leak to the coolant and then it blows out your antifreeze. if you have a blown head gasket you will see it when you pull the head. and yes you should hace the head checked at a machine shop and install with a new head set never reuse a gasket .
