SOURCE: ford mustang - year 2000 - 3.8 liter. The coil pack is out?

I replaced the coil pack to no avail. I also purchase a code reader while at the auto parts store. This device told me cylinder 3 was misfiring (P0303). I found that the spark plug wire had shorted out on the manifold sensor tubes. Replaced that wire and done.

I highly recommend keeping a code reader in your car tool kit. very useful.

Melted coil pack.

which engine? 4L or 4.7L?????
the pack shorted,
buy a new pack,
and pray it didnt burn up the PCM.
ALL high voltage coils fail.
Ignition, induction coils.
by dirt, heat, and the fact there is the giant
E fails (electrostat fields)
all three work hard to kill insulation and plastic potted coil packs.
also bad spark plugs can make this happen faster
as the voltage hits 100,000 volts in a misfire.
the heat and time can crack most plastics.
cracks are sure DOOM thing.

the coil can also burn up if the ecu ignitor transistor shorts. causing gross infinite dwell
that burns up all coil packs .
i always check my ignitor for shorts before
putting in any new expensive coil.
if you dont, you risk burning up the new coil in less than 5 mins.
some swap packs and now you have 2 burned
fun to watch that? not.
what i do is crank engine and measure my ignitor pulse. (with no pack there) if good
a new pack works. if no pulses the ignitor is bad.
(where is your ignitor)? INSIDE THE PCM. this year.

swap it out.
why not just read the free FSm, as posted here over 200 times
2000 WJ jeep it is, and the book , see chapter spark.
and error on this page, see instrument cluster and get igntiion
grin, not my error.? grin
chapter 8i -page 10 (8,eye)

4.0L and 4.7L sorry cant guess engines this life.

the 4L has huge 6 pack coil RAIL that?
athe 4.7L has, uses 8 COP got that?

my wild guess, based on tea leaves and dosing rods.
is V8
page 10 covers it

usually the left side goes bad, carbon tracking
most COP i just buy a new cop boot set for small money.
why not youtube 1000 replacing a COP.
you never posted a photo of the melt,
as when i see real damage it talks to me big time.
if the actual coil section melts, bad news

as you can see, it's just 1 screw at id 2.
and one plug at id 3... super simple, to remove
twist CCW, CW, CCW ,say 2 or three time,
the pull out while TWISTING.. to avoid damage.
the put back with dielectric silicon grease on tip
and where body fits tight to head well bore

What is causing my coil packs to burn out and melt repetitively on my jeep liberty 03?

for coils to burn or melt indicates excessive current flow through them
have voltage checks done wiring as there may be a problem in the ignition module that is allowing excessive current to the packs

1994 mustang v6 started running real rough and is now almost dieing when I press the gas I have cleaned.

Many times the plugs and wires are cancelled out with the coil pak.
change all of them, you will be glad you did.
The ignition coil pack is a crucial part of your ignition system. It's function is to convert the 12 volt power of your vehicle's electrical system in to 35,000 or more volts. This produces a high intensity spark at the spark plug which then ignites the fuel in the cylinder. Coils in general will wear out over time and cause a misfire condition. In engines like this that use a coil pack, if one coil goes bad, the complete assembly needs to be replaced. PLEZE LET ME KNOW. there isn't anything else.

That is normal
Not likely #5 & #8 all the time. Don't go by codes you get. Walk a new coil, until you find bad one

2000 ford expidition will not crank over. Battery good

This could be a number of things, however, make sure that the battery is indeed good, as I have had batteries that have tested good, but once I put in a new battery my car would start immediately.

Have the alternator tested, check all connections at the battery, the starter, and the ground which will run to either the chassi (frame) or the engine block, or a bracket that mounts to the engine block.

Also make sure all relays and fuses related to the battery, alternator, starter and ignition are good.

If this has a distributor, make sure the coil wire is secure at both sides. This alone will prevent it from cranking and/or starting. If you have coil pack(s), have it (them) tested; this (these) will also have a modular under them, which cannot be tested, so if you look at it, if it looks white, bubbly and/or melted, it needs replaced.

I will let you know that coil packs and the modular are spendy, so only replace any packs that are deemed (tested) bad.

Last, if this is equipped with a distributor, check the cap and rotor. If the rotor is cracked, is white on the metal end tip, and the metal points in the cap are white, and/or warn (grooved) and have caked material on them, replace them. Check all plug wires for frayed, or melted plastic. If any are in such conditions, replace all, (they come as a set with a coil wire for distributed systems)

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

2000 expedition 5.4 lt run fine when cold when warm misses bad anyone know whats wrong??

a very common problem for the 5.4 fords is the coil packs going bad. normally misfires once heated up and under slight load ( in overdrive going up a grade) if the check engine light is on, it can help pinpoint which cylinder is misfiring. if plugs haven't been replaced within last 50-60k miles, plan on replacing plugs, and usually the coil pack that goes bad is one of the rear ones, but impossible to tell without a scan tool. if you don't own one, take it to a shop

2001 ford 4.6 liter idles rough sometimes dies

may need 1 0r more coil packs replaced,or it could be what happened to my 2000 4.6---1 lifter expanded out and wouldnt collapse, causing the rocker arm to fall out of place and the valve could never open...try unplugging 1 coil pack at a time while running and listen for a change in the way it runs,if there isnt a change then its probably a bad coil pack, find a cylinder that runs and swap the coil packs,if no difference then its probably the valve staying shut.
